Maybe you could work with a company where you could get a car for a couple of days and a jeep for a couple. Maybe you'd get a good rate for both since you'd be renting for the "week".

    That's a good thought.
Here is the crazy thing...a jeep for a full week with insurance is about $80 more than the same rental for 4 days. What I'm learning is that if you want to rent anything, you are better off doing a 3 day rental or going to the full week to get the best rates.

The next thing we considered was doing a car for the first few days then if we really get the urge for off road, rent a utv for a day.

Hmm. How many days would you go to off-road areas? Maybe 1-2? I would just do the jeep for a few days and a car the rest (if you even need it at all).

So true. I think our issue is more of not wanting to plan it out to specific days. I'm having a hard time justifying the jeep.

I can understand that. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself saying “well since we have it we HAVE to get up and go here or do this” to get your money’s worth. But I also think some part of you really wants to try out the jeep. Maybe a few days in the middle of the trip so it’s more lax on the beginning and end of the trip?

what I really HATE is making plans.
my life, even retired is on a schedule.
in Aruba, all I plan to do is BEACH and dinner.
those are the only plans I like to make.
well, meeting up with friends is great too.

I like kinda flying by the seat of my pants.

That is Jon more than me, he doesn't want me to drag him away from the beach, even if it is just to go to another beach...LOL

I have completely over-scheduled this trip! Can it just get here already!!!
Now that we have so much less vacation time, I feel like I'm treating every trip like it could be our last for a while.

I own a jeep so here is another perspective. I think you would lose your mind if you had a surprise rain storm and had to put the top back on quickly. I have a hard top and soft top....I HATE the soft top and never use it because they are a pain to put on in a rush.....I just pop off the partial top if I want more sun.

Rent a truck, Amigo and Yes have new/newer Izuzo 4X4's, they go where a jeep will go and they are half the price. Or work out a deal with More4less on a split rental, 5 days jeep and 5 days car.
