    Taxi drivers

Whether you rent a car, ride the bus or walk, it seems that some of us still use a taxi from time to time to get around Aruba. So here is the question, who is your favorite taxi provider? Do you use them exclusively? Are they on speed dial? If we can get a few recommendations, along with contact info we will create a sticky for easy access. If you have a large group and use a tour company for rides to/from airport include them. And if you just take the first cab in line let us know that too. Thanks everyone!

Hey Walt, good topic. We rented a car this time for the 1st time ever in Aruba as there were only 5 of us. It has been great and I love the flexibility of being able to run to the drug store, or Linda’s Pancakes without having to consider “the cab ride “ both ways. In fact, tonight we are going to Flying Fishbone for dinner for the 1st time. We’ve always been put off by the “expensive cab ride” to get there and back from the Surf Club.

Just this AM I asked one of the guys at the entrance of the Surf Club what the limit is for taxis here. He said 5 including the driver unless it’s a child under 2 in which case it’s 6. Does that sound right? We will be back in July with our family and will be a group of 11 (all kids over 2) and I’m trying to figure out the best way to arrange transport including maybe renting one car that can seat 6..but that won’t help much if we still need 2 cabs for the other 5 people. Suggestions?

At the airport I have always used the first cab in line and at resort the bell man always flagged a cab for me. At restaurants I always ask waiter to call me a cab. For tours I make arrangements with Bully.

On my last trip I took a cab from airport to The West Deck for lunch. Form West Deck I asked them to call me a cab who arrived in 5 minutes to everyone's surprised. Well work is slow and I bet competition high. The cab driver was a very lovely young lady who was trying to make a living to support her 5 year old. When she dropped me off at the resort she asked politely if she could give me her business card. This made me realize that business was bad but I would have taken the card anyway. I called her a few times and utilized her service include a trip to the airport. She also took me to the hospital for the covid test and waited patiently for an hour, did not charge me the hourly rate. I will probably call her for my next trip as I felt more comfortable using the same cab driver during these covid times..

On FB I always see this advertisement of A1 Taxi service but I have never used them. Here is the Face Book link to A1 taxi if anyone is interested. https://www.facebook.com/a1taxiaruba

We use Jerry and Jenny Jones for all ventures out at night and more. I won't drive in Aruba at night: too many drunk drivers and we're drinking at dinner so don't bother driving. We've been using them for 5+ years.

On this trip, because we were coming down for so long, we had an extraordinary amount of luggage so I picked up the rental car and Jerry met The Spouse at AUA and loaded all the luggage into their minivan and took it all to the house.

They also met us at PriceSmart when we bought catering tables for the home office (they wouldn't fit in the rental car).

We use them exclusively. When we're out to dinner, we WhatsApp them at dessert and they're there by the time we pay the bill. Without fail. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

We came down with 7 folks one time and rented a van from Royal. They even had a car seat for our grandson to use. The van was easy to get around in and kept all of us together.

We only started using taxis once we purchased the car because before that the car rental company would pick us up and drop us off. Once we had the car, we would take the first taxi to the storage facility and we would have the facility call a taxi for us. The one time they were closed we used A1 because it was listed in the book for renters provided by Prestige. Now that we have a garage on the property, we just take the first taxi at the airport and called A1 to take us to the airport.

    We always rent a car.

That being said, there have been a few times where we had to drop a dime and call a taxi.
Those times, we were at a bar or restaurant and both of us had a drink so the designated driver status went down the tubes.
The car remained and we cabbed it back to where we were staying and a cab ride the next day back to retrieve the car.

I believe we called Bully for one of these times and other couple of times we took the first cab that was nearby.

In 52 visits, we have never had a bad taxi experience. My guess is that we have been in a taxi in Aruba < 10 times.

One other note: if you find a good driver, make sure you ask for their card so you can use them again rather than playing Russian Roulette and hoping for the best. We've had more terrible taxi drivers in Aruba than I care to remember - not even just talking on the phone... one would record a voice memo, send it, listen to the reply and then do it all over again. After three rounds of this, we finally told her to pay attention to the road and she gave us a death stare. I gave her the international signal of displeasure: zero tip. Another time, we got a guy who, I swear, barely knew how to drive and had no idea where "Barefoot" was located. It's the Wild West out there - if you find a good one, keep giving them your business.

Took a taxi from the airport this last week, first time in more than a dozen years. Wish I had thought to ask for a card....she was great. On another note, when vacationing with our family group we find renting several cars rather than a van works best for us. Gives the group more flexibility during the day. Some want to snorkel, some want to shop, some want to go to Baby Beach....we are not joined at the hip. Then we caravan to dinner.
