MASKS Marriott Surf Club Mask Policy + Actual Observed Behavior

Hi, what is the current mask policy?
Are masks required around the swimming pools?
Are masks required around the lazy river?
Are masks required while riding a float on the lazy river?
Are masks required on the beach under the palupa umbrella things/
Are masks required while playing beach volleyball?
Are masks required while walking along the shoreline at the beach at the water's edge?
Are masks required to enter any or all of the onsite restaurants?
Thank you in advance for your advice. I have been on the phone with my Marriott Vacation Club advisor, and all that she's been able to tell me is from reading off the vague cryptic corporate website.
The reason I am asking is that a mask-free beach experience is a dealmaker for choosing Aruba for my vacation. I'm scheduling to go in September 2020

Welcome to the Aruba.com community forum

    MASKS
the general answer is NO for OUTDOORS.......beach, pool, lazy river, walking along the beach.
the answer is YES for INDOOR Restaurants and once seated with drink or food ordered, masks can be removed.
the restaurants are also practicing safe social distancing.

the indoor public areas in the resort YES

I am unsure why you linked your entire post to trip advisor.
please unlink or I will unlink it.

Well I have been spending some time at the Marriott resorts and last week a guard come to me and said I need a mask. I was walking outside by the towel return at the Surf Club. I told the Gal that I thought it was just for inside the building. She told me that I needed one outside. So not sure what that was all about but I am just letting you know what happened to me.

Here in NYC I keep my mask on when outside. I went to the Park over the weekend and did a short walk. Some folks were wearing mask and some were not. I sat at a bench and one lady sitting to my left no mask and a man to my right but a little further away at least 3 feet wore a mask. Then an elderly man walking by who was wearing a mask decides to sit and rest. There was a bench 4 feet from me empty but he sat at the bench right next to me inches from me. When he sat down, he took off his mask. I don't get it!!! Then I left.

    I don't get it either.
People are either stupid or they are protesting the gvmt telling them to what to do.
The gvmt tells me to wear a seat belt and I comply.

I am so used to wearing mask; that I actually match them with my uniforms or clothes. lol,
people are just beyond "stupid" having protest "not" to wear "mask"
Just don't get it. It's not that bad once you get used to it..
and they are more comfortable ones too.

I know 4 people who came back from Stellaris yesterday after a 10 day visit. They say the Hotel employees were great and used PPE all the time. They had issues in the elevators, which were set up to be 4 people maximum. Twice there were issues with additional people coming in as the door closed and one of the times 2 people without masks pushed there way in. Words were spoken and the maskless people left. they also reported that on some casino trips everyone was wearing a mask and some trips the majority of people were not wearing masks. Marriott folks were walking around informing people of the rules. mostly to no avail. That seems strange as i would think they would get a mask on be escorted out.

I think the employees are likely well aware of the many videos online people post while having MELTDOWNS because they were told to wear a mask or asked to leave an establishment. This is likely what they want to avoid. I feel bad that they even have to enforce this. Everyone should just wear the mask.

difficult situation. while it is clear that masks need to be used indoors, no questions asked. . .

outdoor regulations seem a bit ambiguous for the Marriott properties (going from prior pics that the mods have posted from ritz/marriott) as with most other establishments I can imagine.

it is a bit murky and up to interpretation as to what constitutes "outdoor gathering spaces" unless they are clearly designated by list or by physical markers (?tape on ground ?coned off sections). or discern, like in the state where we reside (NJ), when is it impossible to socially distance and thus necessary to wear a mask outside.

K-AB sounds like you handled it well, and there was no confrontation, and everyone wanted to be on the same page, where you looked for clarification and the employee was just trying to do the best he/she could do in interpreting and gently enforcing mask policy.

Got the family swabbed today, hopefully no issues on transit day later this week, and for sure we will all be masks-up anywhere we can (indoor for sure, outdoor when possible). hopefully no encounters with loud/confrontational/difficult people. . . =/

    be safe all!
