    Aruba Journal/Log

Do you keep an Aruba Journal/Diary/Log of past trips?

We used to, but fell off that organizational wagon many years ago.

The only real record that I have are trip reports that are on this forum.

My log was pretty straight forward

dates, costs, activities, weather, lodging etc

Do you, and if you do, how do you keep a log/diary or are your Aruba Stories here your log?

I haven’t kept a log in years. It’s my photos that keep my memories.

Since 1980, and throughout the many changes, we still love going downtown in Oranjestad.

    Good morning,

I have only written after-the-fact trip reports; first on another bulletin board and for last four or five Aruba vacations, exclusively on this one. I do take notes, pretty much daily, and then I try to put a t/r together about a week or two after I get home. I try to make mine informative and a little entertaining. Whether I'm successful is for others to judge.

I have never really kept a journal on anything. I'm a CPA, so not making up detailed spreadsheets on Aruba, complete with cost breakdowns and a ton of minutiae almost seems counterintuitive for me but hey, I'm on vacation!

Just in case you're wondering, I start my Aruba note-taking this weekend; got it?

I keep lists that I either add to or remove from when packing. Not clothes but other things since we do stay at one time long. This year we are bringing an add'tl lounge chair (our landlord keeps one we bought in his closet), and two checked boxes.

…..a simple spiral bound (pocket sized) notebook keeps a record of daily expenses by expenditure and restaurants plus my casino wins/losses. I've never reconciled it at the end of a trip!

Stu keeps a spreadsheet of restaurants. Our credit card shows our expenses. Our pictures our memories. Doing a trip report works for a diary.

I enjoy typing my trip reports and find myself looking over them every once in a great while. I also enjoy taking pictures that serve as a great reminder of what we experienced while in Aruba.

I used to keep a spreadsheet of our budget vs actual costs by year, now I prefer not to think about it
It was nice to be able to see where we spent the most money, for example when we stay at a timeshare, more goes to excursions and less to restaurants, that type of thing. Also, if we spend $X on a place to stay, we have $X left over for flights which usually turns into me justifying first class.
