NYC, Aruba AND a honeymoon! Wow! Congratulations! Are you getting married in Sweden or NYC?

I've personally never seen a mosquito in Aruba but they don't seem to like me anywhere.

Valkommen and welcome to the forum. I wear long sleeve rash guards some days and I bring a couple of long sleeve light weight shirts for going out at night. I've never worn or even brought long pants with me. The mosquitos are not a constant problem except sometimes after it rains, usually they can't keep up with all of the wind. You guys will love Aruba, when's the big day?

Aruba is better than the pictures.

    Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Mosquitos generally love me-its a one sided love affair. I could be sitting with a group of people and get 5 bites and they get one or none and it's been that way as long as I can remember. That being said, I don't think I have had more than a bite or two all the times we've been there. Mosquitos are most active early morning or in the evening-they don't generally like the heat and sun. If you are concerned, bring some spray and anti itch cream just in case.

I never heard of getting vaccinated to go to the Caribbean, but I have had some of those shots-tetanus(after a bad cut), pertussis-maybe, and hepatitis(required at work years ago).

I don't think we've ever experienced mosquitos. No-See-Ums, yes, but I only recall those once.

    Thank you so much

Regarding vaccination, the Swedish vaccination program starts at birth then you get some as a child and as teeneger. tetanus vaccine lasts for 20-30 years so it was adviced to take the shot before traveling, so I am not sure the destination was target for all vaccination, more a recommendation when leaving safe little Sweden

Hi Ulf, I am from the Netherlands and one of the few Europeans on this board. I never ever had to take vaccinations for traveling to Aruba. I guess they are a bit over-cautious in Sweden with these recommandations. Aruba is not a lush island with tropical forest and a lot of rain. It is basically a desert with only little rain. So there are not many critters that you can catch diseases from. But you might need the vaccinations visiting New York…

About mosquitos. I am an absolute magnet for them. If there is only one mosquito on the other side of the island, it will fly all the way to my side to bite me. What I learned is that they are most active when the sun rises and when it goes down. So like 6-8 in the morning and evening. I always use bug repelent with Deet on exposed body parts. And never got bitten. Since it is your honeymoon and you asked about Zika. Yes, it was an issue some years ago. But not very wide spread like in Brazil for instance. If you want to be sure, tell your wife that she uses Deet during the hours i just mentioned. And enjoy your honeymoon. Aruba is the long flight more than worth!
