I think this would be a great idea. One of the reasons we don't cruise is the idea of getting off the boat and having to find a beach to go to. (We are big beach goers!). If it was right there and had a few amenities, I think it would be great.

I guess the deal with Hard Rock for a Hotel/Casino fell through?

Sounds like a great idea, but it's not all that close...as in, it's not "right there".
It's kind of difficult to dock a cruise ship near a beach...
And, the port is about 5 minutes away, however, there are buses from the tour companies that would supply transportation, I'm sure.

that sounds great...I would love to see a beach instead of a big honking hotel blocking your view of the caribbean....problem with development is that the gorgeous landscape takes second place.....plus, and although tourism is the staple of the island, how many hotels is enough. You know they are all not always booked to capacity and there are so many nice small places that are available as well (like sasaki for example )

True, but I was thinking more than a ride to Palm or Eagle Beach. What made me think of it was the last time we were in Aruba, we were taking the bus from downtown back to the Divi. A group of people got on from a cruise ship and were not sure where to go for a nice beach. Me being the shy one - not! - told them about Eagle and Palm Beach and the differences. They were so appreciative as they had no idea where they were going. I agree, if a tour company or even the local buses were right at the dock, it would be a short ride. They only had a limited time on the island and wanted a nice beach.

Along with the local buses, I was thinking that most likely DePalm or the other tour lines on the island would likely have a trip to the beach as one of their features.
I know when I tune in the Aruba port camera, there are usually about 4 to 6 DePalm buses already lined up to pick up people for other tours, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a tour to the beach(es).
Perhaps the tour operators on the ships should be made aware, if they don't already know. (And that seems hard to believe....)
