I GOT IT! Wooohooo!! Got Rich's passport in yesterday's mail. Filed in person 5/25, rec'd 6/17. Three weeks & 2 days - considering there was a holiday in there I'm VERY pleased with the timing

How far in advance of passport expiring can you renew it. I ask because when you book with the airline, they have your passport number. its hard to change that once you booked. so I would want my new passport number prior to booking a trip. our passport doesn't expire until next september 2017 but we usually book Aruba in February of that year, not to mention other trips. And I would like the new passport number before I book a flight.

Do the numbers change? I've never noticed, but I guess just assumed it stayed the same - like your driver's license

I renewed mine about 7 months prior to the expiration. If I remember correctly I believe they were recommending that you renew early as some countries require a passport that has more than 6 months left on it. The numbers do change I just checked my old one against the new one.
