I am just wondering if anyone in Aruba at present can comment on whether the huge amounts of smoke from the fires in the Amazon are having any effect on Aruba. I was looking at satellite imagery and the area of coverage seemed to extend a long way north.

CP...they claim that 1 in every 5 breaths we take has oxygen that is in part generated from the growth of the Amazon rain forest. This truly is a scary situation.

Unfortunately, we all help to achieve these fires in one way or another, albeit indirectly. They are cutting down the Amazon to produce more and more, not only for Brazilians, but mostly for the developed nations themselves. Minerals, beef, soybean all in very high demand for our own consumption. Same can be said for the cheap labor happening in many parts in Asia. It continues to happen because we as first world nations keep buying their clothes.
The more we keep buying these products at the current and increasing rate, the more our forests will be destroyed.
In Europe you are seeing a lot of companies pop up now with assurances that they steer clear of these practices. But until a major shift happens in how we as humans consume, I fear the worst for our planet in the not so far future.
Edit: Forgot to add, I am not sure the smoke can even cross the equator due to the coriolis force
