Since 1950, a named storm has never directly hit Aruba. But 13 storms have come within 60 nautical miles of the island, according to the NHC.(CNN)

Note: Tropical storms are given names as soon as they display a rotating circulation pattern and wind speeds of 39 miles per hour (63 kilometers per hour). A tropical storm develops into a hurricane when wind speeds reach 74 mph (119 kph).(Google search)


So, in 72 years, Aruba has never had a direct hit and only had 13 have come close.

Today a huge 180 change in their opinions

Gas station lines are long 25+ vehicles waiting for gas

we have bread. Pb jelly soda beer juice butter and a frozen cooked turkey breast and couple cans of gravy for hot turkey sandwiches tomorrow night.

Arubans are just mostly and unfortunately always "last minute" people. Which is why grocery stores also fill up last minute. It also didn't help that the system sped up. Most people had the idea that they had until late Thursday to do everything, but now thunderstorm conditions are expected to begin as early as 6pm tomorrow, Wednesday. These people then only had today to do all preparations before work tomorrow. They'll get home just in time before conditions really deteriorate.

I hope the power holds and there is nothing but some street flooding, minimal beach erosion, and some broken tree branches.

Can’t blame them for being concerned. It’s scary as people don’t know what to expect. This is unexpected traveling to Aruba.

I know. They are there for a an extended time. They are being very cautious with the condo. It’s good that they see what it is like since they are planning on owning in Florida and the Caribbean in the future

So we just bought our condo in April and one of the reasons we picked Aruba? Yup minimal chances of any real storm since it's out of the
hurricane belt! We haven't been down there since April and plan to go back in Oct. if I can get flights that don't drain what's now left of my 401k!!
Let's hope it is nothing more than a little more rain for everyone who is there and all those heading there.
