Pre or Post Timeshare. Where to Stay?

Many of us extend our trips out a bit longer than our timeshares can accommodate us.

Where do you stay pre or post timeshare?

Does your timeshare resort offer you extra nights (changing rooms) ?

We are big fans of Holiday Inn for pre and post timeshare stays. We appreciate the nice clean rooms and closeness to everything Palm Beach. Also with my Spire elite status we get a reserved palapa (I hope they still do that), 4th night free when paying with points, 10% of the points used back. It just works for us.

Thanks for starting this thread. I want to see what others say - we have this dilemma every year. For us, it's a tough choice. We prefer to start our trip in Palm Beach with a few crazy nights, some daytime bar hopping - then we tend to settle into beach relaxation mode. It also depends greatly on which timeshare we have reserved, what their check-in day is, and we have to balance that with flights and days off from work. Costa Linda is probably our favorite timeshare but the Friday to Friday interval is the least convenient for how we like to use our time. I also feel like anything less than 3 nights is not worth a change in hotel (personal preference). We did 2 nights on a previous trip and the change in hotel just did not feel like it was worth it. We also look at price and convenience. Our ideal trip would be 3 or 4 nights in Palm Beach, then move to Costa Linda, we just can't take that much time off this year.

This year poses a few different issues. If we end up having to test at the airport, we definitely want a view from our room for the evening we are quarantined. I currently have 2 refundable reservations - Holiday Inn oceanfront is almost half the price of Hilton partial view. Can I justify the cost of Hilton, well I'm just not sure. Do we want the view if we are stuck in our room - absolutely! Hilton is a nicer property and we haven't stayed since it was Radisson but we had a fantastic time that trip. But there are more decisions - throw in the option of waiting until the last minute and getting a deal on a partial timeshare week at either Playa Linda (where our full week with be) or Surf Club to get access to the Lazy River. Playa Linda makes the room transfer so easy and since we are staying there the final 7 nights of our trip it might make the most sense to just stay there the entire trip. I also have the option of booking direct with Playa Linda and paying a little more than a rental and have up to 24 hours to cancel with a refund. Given this year's circumstances, I think that might make more sense than a private rental.

Is your head spinning yet? Mine is and so is my poor husband who I drive crazy with this daily. so here is my breakdown:
Hilton - a little pricey, not a great view, but we love the resort
Holiday Inn - has always met our needs, best rate, palapas are too close together now, sentimental factor - we spent our honeymoon there and this will be our 10th anniversary.
Playa Linda - not too much more than Holiday Inn, easiest move to our timeshare, rooms are spacious with a full kitchen, doesn't have that wow factor, view and balcony is good (even better if you splurge for a 2 bedroom)
Surf Club - lots of rentals available, 2 words - LAZY RIVER, may be more crowded over Thanksgiving, would have to rent from an owner so non-refundable.

While we don’t stay in a timeshare, we do like to add a few nights after our stay at Manchebo. The last few years it has been at the Renaissance Ocean Suites. Our choice is based on the restaurants we enjoy and access to two casinos that are walkable. The private island is nice and I absolutely love the pools on the ocean suites side. Plus they offer good room service for breakfast

When we had timeshares, we have extended once at Renaissance(adult side). When we came in for settlement, we needed two nights and we stayed at Tropicana(now Eagle Beach) and we did two nights there between a timeshare and being able to get into our condo(was rented). Both times the rooms were clean and comfortable, but they were not updated. It was quiet and the pools were nice. We didn't spend much time there as we had a lot of things to do.

We have done pre or post at:
    Renaissance Marina
    Renaissance Ocean
    Aruba Grand (now the Riu)
    Marriott Stellaris
    Holiday Inn
    Lacabana
    and others

Early years we tagged on extra nights at Renaissance (then the Sonesta) and we really liked the time at Renaissance Island.
We also liked the Holiday Inn lots too.

We especially loved the Aruba Grand. Sadly, that is no more

    We had to add a day before and after;
Guess we were lucky and got to add them onto the same resort and same room.
if I had to do a pre or post I chose the Renn close to many nice places and walking distance.

At Barcelo (Occidental timeshare), we can add bonus days/weeks. Is that unusual? I thought all timeshares offered that to owners. In fact, we can rent for family/friends also.

yes like Barcelo, Lacabana also tries to accommodate folks pre or post timeshare.
we infrequently stayed there for extra as we really liked staying at other places too.

we are no longer owners of timeshare "ANYWHERE". (HOORAY)
But I really would like to rent someday at Surf Club...even if it is just a studio for a week.
It is all about that lazy river.

Sometimes you can add on nights directly through Marriott for the Surf Club. The dates we need are not currently available, I'm guessing they have lots of people moving their weeks that they couldn't use earlier this year.
