Affect Through Distance - Solo Exhibition by Velvet Zoé Ramos

10 September - 21 October 2021

Our direct access to information and heavy reliance on images have created a sort of collapse in our understanding and relation to the other. What is our relationship with these sights of suffering? How real are they to us, and how do they affect us? Does it spurs us into action, or are we just bystanders?

Cas di Cultura AUA Exhibit

This question extends to the producers of (visual) material with suffering as subject matter. Local artist Velvet Zoé Ramos explores the ways she can engage with social themes such as world hunger, nostalgia, and loss through her artistic practice. She emphasizes the importance of (re)presenting "the Other" ethically. Ramos delves into our moral code by reflecting our understanding of empathy, the other, and memory.

This exhibition is an invitation to explore our relationship with the misfortunes of others through Ramos' own search through her artistic practice.
