Palm Beach Restoration Project Starts June 2018

After 2 years of planning, Varadero Aruba will be doing a big beach revitalization and restoration project.

The area that is being restored is the beach between the Playa Linda Beach Resort and MooMba Beach.

The project will last from June 2018 until November 2018. The goal is to remove sludge-like sand/silt by depositing it 1 kilometer off shore. This sand/silt will then be replaced with clean sand. The goal of this project is to restore the cleanliness and appearance of our beaches. This will be executed by professionals equipped with approved machinery.

The redistributed sludge is composed out of all organic material and is not contaminated. According to the Dutch Soil Quality Regulation, the sludge was assessed as safe for land or surface water. Marine life will be monitored by the Nature and Environment Office (Dienst Natuur en Milieu), during this process.

The area between Playa Linda Beach Resort and MooMba Beach will be divided into 6 sections of 50 to 80 meters each. The sections will be worked on one by one, they will be closed off with gates, and there will be signs present to inform visitors of Palm Beach. It will take about a month to complete each section.

Please note that the water may be murky during the operation, as sand is lifted, causing a cloudy effect. Swimming and diving is allowed and safe outside of the restricted areas.
