Recap Wente Vineyards - Papiamento Restaurant Golf Tournament

Arion Wines Donation to Aruba Autism

The 11th Annual Wente Vineyards - Papiamento Restaurant Golf Tournament concluded successfully with the recent check presentation to the Aruba Autism Foundation.

“We’re very pleased with the results,” said Govert van der Hout, ”the tournament attracted 122 golf players and almost two dozen generous sponsors, who contributed enthusiastically to a great social cause.”

Arion Wine Company organizes the exciting tournament annually, with the active participation of Eric Wente, of Wente Vineyards, as the golf tournament host. Together with Papiamento restaurant the partners present a multi-tiered event over the course of one weekend each April.

The tournament opened with a golfers’ cocktail reception, over delicious bites and free flowing wines. Eric Wente greeted guests warmly and introduced the representative of Fundacion Autismo Aruba, the recipients of the collected funds, who shed light on the mission and work of the not-for-profit organization.

The following day, Eric Wente guided a wine tasting with the students of EPI. The students tasted five of Wente Vineyard’s most popular varieties, while Wente described the wine making process, and the work which goes into producing world famous wines. The students were introduced to 2014 “Louis Mel” Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 “Morning Fog” Chardonnay, 2014 “Riverbank” Riesling, 2013 “Riva Ranch” Single Vineyard Pinot Noir and a 2013 “Southern Hills” Cabernet Sauvignon.

A full day of much-enjoyed golfing followed, with a 12noon shotgun start. Players were treated to a Southwestern style lunch prepared by Papiamento Restaurant, paired with a nicely chilled bottle of Wente Vineyards wine.  The 2013 Wente “Morning Fog” Chardonnay, 90 point rating recipient from Wine Enthusiast, was the ultimate crowd pleaser.

At the award banquet at Tierra Del Sol, on the pool deck overlooking the California lighthouse, at sunset, players enjoyed a buffet of soups and sandwiches as Govert van der Hout, Arion Wine Company, Director of Golf, Oliver Riding and Golf Pro James Kiley, of Tierra del Sol, handled the attractive awards and prizes to three pairs of top winners.

While the date for next year‘s golf tournament has not been set yet, preparation are already underway.

As he presented the check to the Aruba Autism Foundation Govert van der Hout explained that the key to the tournament’s success is the consistent collaboration between Arion Wine Company, Wente Vineyards and Papiamento Restaurant, with the golf course pitching in with an overall positive experience. “The players really enjoyed themselves, and the event delivered on its promise to bring the community together for a good cause, “van der Hout concluded.

The tournament was sponsored by: Aruba Airport Authority, Arubabank, AIB Bank N.V., ALBO Aruba, ASD, Century Group, Complete Logistics, Guardian Group, Nagico Aruba NV, Oduber and Kan, Plus Accountants, Setar, Garage Cordia (Lexus), Robertson Fire Protection, Aruba Aloe, AWA, Aruba Happy Rentals, Pro Tec, Fofoti Tours and Tranfers, Hyatt Regency and Tundruk N.V.
