The first new herrings of the 2022 season were presented to Gregory Milliard, Aruban MMA fighter, and Fabian Lantinga, director of operations of Aruba Wine and Dine on Friday, June 17th. Both gentlemen pronounced the herring as “fresh, fat and delicious”. The ‘haring happen’, a traditional happening, took place at ‘home of the Dutch’, Café the Plaza. The ‘Hollandse Nieuwe’, containing a fat percentage between 21 and 23 percent, is of outstanding quality. A little later this month, the herring will be at its peak at 26 percent.
Of course, a herring should be eaten raw, without chopped onions or pickles (an Amsterdam variety). This way the taste of the herring will come through loud and clear while the fish glides down your throat, very delightful and full of flavor. From now on the 2022 catch of herring is warmly recommended to all herring lovers!
