The Wind Racers Club Aruba was recently taken over by parents, determined to introduce their own favorite sport to their kids.
Club members now meet every Sunday at Fishermen’s Huts, and conduct races in 3 categories, Beginner, Intermediate and Young Guns, the categories used on the Blue Highway, Aruba’s unique long strip of water where long-distance races are held.
On hand last Sunday, to cheer up the kids and share her passion for speed, wind, and blue water, Sara-Quita Offringa, 25 times Free Style, World Windsurfing Champion.
The WRCA is now run by new board members, since July 2024, they are Hans Mondria, Marcel Nobels, Patrick Rosse and Renier van Sisseren, all avid, experienced windsurfers, dedicated to the idea of bringing kids back to the water.
Twenty-seven youngsters participated in the races last Sunday, 20 members and 7 non-members, everyone is welcome. The youngest participant was 8, the oldest 14.
The board hopes to see local kids get into windsurfing, the same way they are attracted to football or baseball clubs, entering at any lever, and practicing sports after school, and on weekends.
To join: Must be 8 years or older, bring a rash guard, sunscreen, water shoes optional. All other windsurf equipment is included. The contribution for kids in the beginner and intermediate level is Awg 100, monthly, based on an average of Awg 25 per meet. The club is not a commercial initiative, it genuinely desires to see young windsurfing talent developed on the island.
Time: Every Sunday, 9am.
Locations: Next to Vela at Fishermen’s Huts

The WRCA was first established around 1986, when local windsurfers announced the first international Hi-winds competition, now in its 35+ edition.
The WRCA first started racing on Eagle Beach, and on Palm Beach, but settled on Fishermen’s Huts as the preferred location. The club represents a group of people that is ready to take their love for the ocean to the next level, by slicing through the waves and delivering great fun to sport practitioners and spectators.
