First trip to Aruba...late September. I am renting a car. What is the driving situation/traffic/speed limits? Also parking if I drive into Oranjestad?
I would like to explore as much as possible...not worried about jeep only areas...will probably do an island tour. Staying at Divi Resort...suggestions for where to go "off the beaten path". You do drive on the right hand side of the road, correct? Thanks a bunch for your input! Getting more excited everyday!

Right hand side. Speed limits are posted.

Only traffic is on LG Smith Blvd downtown Oranjestad, Only a couple of minutes to get through it.

Free maps are available within brochures readily available in hotel....these suffice for 95% of what you'll want to do.

a few places that are easily accessible by car are
Alto Vista chapel
California Lighthouse
Baby Beach
Natural Bridge (has fallen down)
All of these places are probably on an island tour but if you have your own car you can do it at your leisure and pace.
Drive around and check out/tour the cemetaries. They are amazing and kept so beautifully and bright.

Familiarize yourself with "international road signs" and there are a bunch of rul;es of the road in the "aruba experience" magazine/book that you will get upon arrival.

There are rotary/rouundabouts.
The vehicle in the roundabout has the right of way.

One rule is NO RIGHT ON RED. I have learned the hard way. Aruba police are not at all impressed with the claiming ignorance statement.

The main highway in aruba is the stretch of road from san nicholas to the airport to o'stad to the lighthouse. The speed limit is approx 45 - 50 MPH but lots of folks go real fast.

Be aware of herds of goats.............anywhere.....anytime....in your driving around. They have the right of way.

Also, be wary of the multi-lane intersections on way from airport to Eagle Beach/low rises, such as L.G. Smith Blvd that Rob mentioned
Some accidents there when folks travelling down or up the Blvd & then turn across the Blvd @ an intersection (signal is red now on this cross-street)... . banga alang.. there goes the day...

Be esp. wary of folks walking or biking @ night!

Have a great time!

What about parking? Is it mainly parking lots, or is it street parking? Are there meters? If so, do they take U.S. quarters? How hard is to find parking spots, or is it pretty easy?

i don't think i have ever seen a parking meter on aruba..............
there are plenty of lots/garages for the resorts

downtown parking is somewhat tough, but we have always found a space at the seaport lot.

Are these free lots? If not, how much money is it usually to park? And do they take credit cards, US cash, of florins?
