My bank, in small town, alberta, Canada, tells me that travellors cheques are not so readily accepted anymore. They tell me that credit/debit is used more. Is this true? I am coming in December, and dont want to be caught without finances. How about ATMs? Are they common there? I know... I should know these things, but I dont.. hahah. Thanks so much for replying! traveler's checks are widely accepted.
some places charge a fee for cashing them.
casinos do not charge......as they hope and expect you are going to spend that cash there!
there are ATMS and the choice of cash disbursement will be US Dollars or Aruban Florins.

I have been told that use of DEBIT cards is not recommended.

some credit cards have a 2 or 3% foreign transaction fee.

my husband and i bring a mix of cash, trav checks and hit the atm.

We do use our credit cards and our ATM on the island, but we notify our bank and credit card company's that we are traveling to Aruba. They will ask you the dates you are traveling, so if there is any problem, you will not be responsible. We suggest you call them and ask questions.
Have a great trip to Paradise. :):):)

We do not use our debit card because our bank stated if the account number were ever stolen and money debited from our account without our knowledge we would be out the money until we could prove there was criminal involvement.

It was much easier to get a Capital One credit card which does not charge an international credit card usage fee. :) We carry the amount of cash we know we will be using for taxis and tipping and keep it locked in the safe unless we are going to go out and actually use it ;) :)
