downtown casino's are the Crystal and the Seaport.

the CONCORD of which he is referring may be the name of a casino at one of the hotels.
the Westin was previously called the Wyndham and the Concord.

The Hotel that is now the Westin opened in 1977 as the Concord. That was also the name of the casino. In 1993, the Hilton purchased the hotel and called the casino the Casablanca, a name which it retains to this day. The hotel then became the Wyndham, the Aruba Resort Spa & Casino and then the Westin. Through each, it has retained the name, Casablanca. I hope that helps.

The Westin is renaming the casino upon re-opening

The Casablanca casino at the Westin Resort, Aruba, is temporarily closed during a casino ownership change. The hotel is not affected. The casino, newly named Palm Beach Casino, Aruba, will reopen in approximately 4 weeks, refreshed and enhanced with many new machines. In the interim, the hotel is working with other area casinos to serve its guests."

Yes, I saw. And I can't wait to see what they do. But, I'm a bit sceptical about the whole 4 weeks thing. ;)

just got back from 2 weeks at divi village and spent way too much time at alhambra. had an interesting conversation with sandra, one of the pit bosses. she says when a casino opens it get 10 years with out paying taxes. apparently what happens is after 10 years they close for "renovations", but in fact they change the name of the company that owns the casino and then get another 10 years tax free. seems like that makes it way to easy to get around paying taxes. also noticed that alhambra is starting to remodel, but will do it in small steps so they don't have to close and lose money.:)

I knew that applied to hotels, but did not realize it applied to the casinos themselves. Interesting. Still, there are a number that have made it 20 years or more with the same name, including the Alhambra. I guess name brand could be worth more than the taxes.

Where is the best Casio of the world?

Impossible to say. Like most things, it's all a matter of taste. Do you like casinos that are elegant, hip, casual, have good odds, are modern/retro, that are wide open or have an intimate feeling, have a lot to see, have a lot of other gamblers v. not so many, that is convenient, that has good memories for you...and on and on and on. What is your favorite casino?

have been to monte carlo, of course that was in the late 80's. They only had two casinos, one was I think a Loew's and the other was housed in a gorgeous hotel, the Hotel de Paris but i'm not sure if the casino was called that. at that time, they were a bit disappointing considering in your mind you whip up all these images. I don't know how they are now, don't forget that was over 20 years ago. however, monaco IS beautiful if for no other reason but to see the tremendous yachts in the harbor.

hope you're having fun, andrea....
