Has anyone with kids used this restrainst system on the plane? My son will have just turned 2 when we go to Aruba and we think his car seat will be way too big to fit in the seat. Plus we don't want to have to lug it around the airport or check it in.-it was expensive and God forbid anything happened to it...oye. We do want to have him restrained for safety and he is quite the rambunctious little man, I can't really have him running about the cabin for 5 hrs.

hey melissa that seatbelt/harness restraint is awesome!!!

i have never seen it before and it looks perfect.

one thing to consider, and i do not know if it affects the use of the restraint.......seems like the little one in the video should be sitting on a pillow for a boost.

i hope that someone replies about their experiences.

Yes, we've used them for our kids when they were about 2-4. it works great, but as with all seat restraints and kids, we hardly used them save for the lift off and landing --- only because our kids were not willing to stay seated for the whole ride.

make sure you practice putting the restraints up on a chair before you use it. it takes effort to set it up.

also, be prepared to ask the person sitting behind you if they don't mind you wrapping the BIG strap on the back of your chair (which is in front of their face). you will get quizzical looks.

Thank you so much for your advice!! I was thinking of using it on a shorter flight to Florida this fall but I don't think I will be able to get down there.

It will be an interesting trip to say the least but I am very thankful that you said to practice setting it up beforehand. I am very proactive and when we get on the plane is not the time to try and figure out how to use it! :D

because the strap is placed around the chair, you have to actually open the tray (from the person sitting behind you) and then wrap the strap around before closing the tray again.

so, needless to say, you will have to excuse yourself and explain what you're doing....

FYI: most carriers have specific restrictions on where they can be used. Usually the row in front and behind exit rows are prohibited along with the exit row itself. As usual, some of the flight attendants won't know that and some will.

Overall, it's a nice setup. I've seen them used a number of times and they are pretty effective.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the exit row restrictions. I will check our seating arrangements just to be safe. Thank you so much for reminding me!

I hope I get a nice person sitting behind Dylan that won't mind us fidgeting with their tray. Lets just say this year when we flew home, the young woman traveling with her father and sister was less than enthusiatic about having a baby in front of her, and was quite vocal about it...and so I gave it right back at her! Her sister was embarrased by her behavior. Luckily for her, he slept nearly the entire time.

way off topic
when kevin was a little younder than dylan, we let him out of his carseat on the plane. we also fed him m&ms as a little treat to keep him quiet.

he drooled chocolate drool over the seat in front of us onto a lady's head.
omg

Oh God! I would just die!! :D

That's funny! Dylan um, ah, filled his diaper both times just before landing and I was so worried it would stink up the plane! My sister was kind enough to go take him and change him. Gotta love traveling with kids!!

Side note, I was happily surprised this time around by the number of kids on the plane to Aruba. All us parents were sympathetic to one another while waiting to board at JFK so it was nice.:) We were all in the same group of fidgety kids!
