this is @ Moomba

Very disappointing that the patrons are not being careful.

If we make it to the island in November, we will stay clear of any of these situations.

Well, neither are the bartenders. Not a mask in sight. It's a complete sh**show.

...we'd expect no masks from Americans..... but not so much for Arubans..... so stupid....so sad.

But....in some ways I understand this: Since the residents of Aruba don't have the coronavirus and every tourist that enters Aruba is tested to be COVID19-free prior to being allowed to circulate on the island ..... then is a mask and social distancing needed for one to feel safe?
For me personally, I wear mask and gloves everywhere but I can understand how people who were recently tested, and are circulating with a population (other tourists) who have been 100% tested .... feel that this IS a safe environment.
This is one of the unique things about Aruba, currently. They are offering a "space" in the world where no one can enter (and circulate with the public) unless they are free of the coronavirus.

But are the test 100% accurate? And I am sure there are people who are infected but are to early to test positive. So the virus is going to come here again and its not as matter of if, its a matter of when!

I’d like to know how Moomba met the criteria for The Health and Happiness Seal???

I agree...they should check now! When Moomba's reopened (prior to border reopening) there was social distancing because those that were dining the evening we did were older adults....temps were taken when we arrived....tables were set apart...easily 6 feet at least. This video crosses Moomba's off my list !

It really is discouraging. While I get that people are feeling safe and Aruba has had control over the virus, THE VIRUS STILL EXISTS! It’s not just the patrons that are being foolish but also he bar managers and staff. So very foolish.

Totally AGREE. What if these are the same type that were tested at the airport and broke quarantine prior to receiving test results.

And also agree with CPJONES. Some Americans can’t/won’t follow directives in their own country. Would you expect anything else on foreign soil.

This is a very bad situation, if it is a recent video. After all the government mandates and covid hurdles I am a bit skeptical. The tables appear to be very close together and no one is wearing a mask. Wouldn't they be shut down immediately?

looks like as old video to me. Hard to believe that place like Mumba does not follow the guidance.

I hadn't considered that. Wish there was a way to confirm when it was filmed.

Hi, I think it's an old video too. I can't imagine the restaurant/Aruba government allowing this type of close grouping. And no masks on staff?? It's just that it's not fair to Moomba if this is an old video because tourists who are on the island now, or planning to go, would not visit if they see this video.

If people had common sense the virus would not have such high numbers in the US. People are tested 72 hours before leaving, but that is no guarantee that they did not contract the virus 10 minutes after leaving the testing center. People need to smart wherever they are in the world. The sad truth is people have to ordered to do what is right because they are not doing it on their own.

If this video is dated count today as the last day I read anything Rona writes.

I believe another member wrote once that Rona sometimes spreads gossip. I won't stop reading her, but I take everything with a grain of salt. The first thing that entered my mind was that it is old footage.

someone on an Aruba FB group made a posting that she took a walk over to that restaurant/bar/beach club 2 evenings ago and what she saw was disturbing.
no social distancing and just reckless behaviors overall.

one of the things that I noticed with the video is that all of the folks that I could see in the video, appeared young. 20s
I have been to Moomba.......many times.
granted it was not late night but it was 7 or 8 pm................and yes there were always young people there, but there was an equal amount of older people..........40s, 50s and up!

so, I am on the fence as far as the date of the video.

Anthony (Capt of Tranquilo) is also sharing the video and is unhappy about the situation per his FB postings.

that being said, I usually believe Rona.
she has eyes and ears everywhere on the island.

I too wish there was a date on this video. Not saying I do not believe it, but not saying I do either.

I am here now. Arrived last Thursday. Took a test in the USA on Monday but the results did not come back until Thursday so had to test in the airport as well. Quarantined for the night and by the time I woke I had a negative result as of midnight. Just because I tested negative Monday and again on Thursday doesn’t mean I couldn’t have been infected a few days prior to arrival or anytime during my travel down here. If so, that would most likely have NOT shown on the airport test. I am a guest in this country so when I grocery shop or go into any enclosed space, walk the hall of my resort to get to my room, I wear a mask. If and most likely WHEN it comes back into this country (hopefully I’m wrong for all of the Aruban people), it will come from outsiders and most likely us Americans.

Now to get back on topic. I have to say I’ve seen both sides so I would have to assume whatever video or pictures you are referring to are correct. The few places I have been (Ling and Sons, Smokey Joes (take-out), Casa Tua (Palm Beach) and Benihana (outside bar as I don’t really need to eat “inside” right now.. here or in the states), ALL the employees I saw were wearing masks. I have also seen gatherings under huts and on the beach and at outdoor bars of numerous people maskless, and definitely not social distanced. So just like in the states you have people that respect the situation and then others that seem like since they got their test everything is back to normal. Hopefully for this country and those of you who are still planning on visiting in the near or distant future the selfish people do not ruin it for you. Just my 2 cents...

The problem is the same we see elsewhere, partying and alcohol. It dsnt matter whether they are tourists or locals, people insist on being able to party and drink in crowds. Otherwise, wherever you go, be it a supermarket or the apple store, people will most likely be keeping the necessary distance and a good portion will have a mask on, especially at the supermarket. It's only at night or at select establishments catering to a select group of people that you will see such carelessness. It's the same group of people that are dying on Facebook pleading the government to allow businesses to be opened again passed 11pm.

I've said this before, but always please double and triple check if something stated on the Bati Bleki page is true or not. She is not a news reporter, but a blogger. Her page name literally means "to gossip" and she has been wrong over and over in the past, during this Corona crisis and on her views about the relationship between the Netherlands and Aruba . I sometimes wonder if she can't speak Papiamento because of how many things pass her by.

I understand people run to like an English speaking page about Aruba so they can keep in touch, but you run the risk of being misinformed just like the locals who follow the likes of 24ora.

Edit: Some people have doubts if this video is legit or not, it definitely is. Over the past months there have been loads of videos about people not maintaining distance. This is just the latest one. Aruba was Corona free for months though and we have since the reopening already imported 12 new cases(less than expected according to DVG). Which is why more attention is given now to these videos because statistically speaking there must be tourists walking around with false negatives. The police is active though in closing places or ordering people to disperse. If you feel a situation is getting out of hand, please call the police.

The more I think about it the more I am convinced the video is new and not old. In the US if you did that it would be subject to lawsuits if you knowingly posted incorrect info that harmed a business or person's earnings power and I think Rona is a lot of things but dumb is not one of them....and to post a video from the past would be beyond dumb IMO.

I would agree with you if one server in the video wore a mask. But there is a July 16, 2020 story on the Aruba.com website promoting local music night at MooMba. At the end of the piece is the following note: MooMba Beach complies with Aruba’s official COVID-protocols and has received health-certification by the Aruba government. #SocialiseResponsibly Moomba is risking their livelihood if this video is recent. So far, at least, no one has verified its authenticity. And yes, I know that no one has verified that it isn't real.

You know the nationality of these folks from a video? Or is it always the dumb American's fault? ;)

Have you passed by blue moon or cas casuela recently? Like I said above, it has nothing to do with whether they are tourists or locals. It's about the type of person that during a pandemic still decides its cool to stay and dance and drink in a large crowd and the establishment that allows the free for all. Whether they test negative dsn't really change much of anything because it could still be a false negative.

Driving around today I see people holding distance pretty much everywhere. The only place that it isn't respected is these types of party establishments.

As a responsible American I take offense to your messaging. If you have ever been to Moomba its probably 50/50 between locals and tourists and Sunday nights I would say its 75 percent locals....just saying.

Part of Rona's 7/21/2020 daily.

"CONCERNED
Aruba’s older demographic has been concerned with the total disregard of social distancing on full display at nightclubs and bars: Sandra’s Garden Fermín’s YOLO, Moomba Beach, Gusto, a petri dish of germs, a rubbing, licking, sweating soup of humanity, with owners blatantly NOT following the rules, they promised to follow, when they applied for the Health & Happiness seal.
We see no face masks on workers, no running at a lesser capacity, zero social distancing, little sanitizing.
This is what the MinPres said yesterday.
Of concern is the lack of physical distancing compliance by the community.
As per Article 4.1 of the governmental decree, the business is responsible for ensuring hygiene and physical distancing by the customers.
The responsibility of the business includes outdoor activity.
Policy can enforce temporary closing of an establishment that does not comply.
In some countries consequences include: fines, loss of wage subsidy, and more.
We must all be responsible and be disciplined follow the rules. The lockdown hurt us all and we need to avoid another one. Lack of discipline will lead to reintroduction of drastic measures.
Late evening agglomeration is a higher risk because behavior becomes more irresponsible later and after more drinks are consumed.
There is also a higher risk of accidents later, which puts pressure on hospital capacity."

I deleted the offensive posting.

I also had to delete the ones where folks quoted the offensiveness.

I am going to go back to see if I can edit out the insulting quote and let the rest of the postings stand.

Here is MOOMBA'S response from their FB page
At MooMba Beach we like to party. However, the last few live music events where incredibly popular and have caused an overwhelming number of visitors. For thisreason, we have decided to postpone the scheduled performance of Le Groove this Friday. MooMba Beach will remain open during the regular hours (8am till 11pm) for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks, just the party on Friday night will move to a new date.
MooMba Beach takes its responsibility amid the COVID-crisis very seriously. We comply with the government COVID-protocols, have successfully passed multiple DVG and police inspections. Not only will you find signs on the premises about social distancing, hand washing instructions, sanitizers and markers, our staff is well trained in health protocols. In addition, we use the high-standard cleaning products of EcoLab, which instantly kill viruses and are also bio-friendly.
We know that many people will be disappointed by the rescheduling of Le Groove and were really looking forward to the performance, though, we hope you will visit us for a drink and a bite on any day of the week. The new date will be announced through our social media channels.
Thank you for your understanding!

I emailed the Aruba Tourism Board with concerns around enforcement of health and happiness code. They forwarded me an overview of the certification that included the contact info below to report concerns. Seems like the Moomba issue has been addressed but just sharing as FYI.

“Should you have experienced a less than pleasurable moment at one of our HH Code certified partners please share this information with us at feedbackhealthcode@aruba.com.”

Not any more.... not after the influx of 4,000 tourists in one day.
Sorry to be realistic about it.
