    Restaurant Websites

Being so close to our trip, I'm on restaurant sites daily. Some restaurants don't have much of a website and depend on Facebook. I have the most confidence in the restaurants with menus posted on their sites.... and the priced menus are the most helpful for planning purposes. I do look at the food porn on TA and that helps too! I also depend on opinions of other forum members. What do others depend on for planning?

I count on TA for 0.
I like that many restaurants have websites..with menus listed and prices on those menus.
I also like that some use FB with menus and prices listed on those menus.
I do prefer that they use websites.

I dislike (STRONGLY) restaurants that do not have either FB or Websites and are so smug, lazy or arrogant, that they feel that prospective diners do not deserve the respect and consideration of having :
    1) email reservation system
    2) phone reservations at reasonable hours...say 1 or 2 pm thru evening.

    AND
I value the opinions of forum members.

I’ve found more and more restaurants use Facebook as it’s easier for them to maintain than a website. My preference is to see the menu on line with prices of course. I usually start by looking at menus; then take a look at TripAdvisor for food photos while taking the reviews with a grain of salt. I also search through the culinary thread here on our favorite forum. Then, if I’m really intrigued with a restaurant I’ll ask here what everyone thinks.

We’ve had good luck with our dining choices with only a few places I absolutely would no go back to. I find it more of a challenge to narrow down our choices as we always want to go back to favorite spots.

I also should say that I’ll follow favorite restaurants on twitter as they are apt to tweet out photos of their specials or events that are going on.

I use TA mainly as a source for showing all restaurant options in one place, then I look to the photos. I ignore the reviews. It never occurred to me to try yelp (for options and pictures). Of course, I also rely forum members’ recommendations.
I do appreciate restaurants that have a website...as opposed to only a facebook.

Wow, how do you really feel, Andrea? We know and speak to so many friends and other guests at the Aruba Surf Club that there is never a shortage of opinions on restaurants. We book our reservations through the concierge at the Surf Club (don't usually ask them for recommendations) and they always seem to have adequate "pull" to get us in almost anywhere we want to go. We have our few " must visit" restaurants every trip and then add a couple more or new ones to try once we're there. Its never been an issue.

I feel that the restaurant businesses in aruba (and elsewhere actually) needs to cater to and be as transparent to their patrons as possible.
We as restaurant patrons are the best advertisement that restaurants can have.
There are a few restaurants in Aruba and here in my town, that do not even try to make it easy for the customer/diner to make a reservation and or post menus.

TA is my least favorite source for restaurant reviews, but I do like TA restaurant photos as well as FB photos, however I really do not count on TA.

    Restaurant reviews are terribly subjective.
Have any of you made recommendations to folks, they go to a certain restaurant based on your recommendation and then it turns into a train wreck?
Years ago, I made a recommendation for the restaurant TABASCO (closed many years ago and located at the Bushiri). It was a wonderful, fun and delicious place. Poolside at LaCabana, I recommended it to a family ..they went..........hated everything about it.........and reamed Paul and I up and down publicly poolside the next day. It was not only embarrassing....it made me feel like I never wanted to recommend any place to anyone ever again.

I wish that the websites and FB pages would indulge the would be customers/patrons and make it as easy as possible.

I thoroughly agree, if you can't maintain a current webpage with prices I'm immediately disappointed and just not interested in whatever you're selling. I also feel like if all you can do is update a Facebook page, you're heart isn't into it. This isn't the 80's, get a webpage and put pertinent information on it so I can make an educated decision. I don't have Facebook, never saw the need, and if a restaurant only has a Facebook page I most likely won't go there. I won't even look at TA not even with a grain of salt. As for recommending places at the pool, that's a toss up. If someone asks about a good place to get a burger or something casual or who has a good happy hour I'll share my opinion, but not about high end places.

I do value the opinions expressed here on the forum both good and bad.

Restaurants are subjective. I went to Barney's based on recommendations and none of us liked it at all. Also, I know everyone here likes the Local Store burgers but we just didn't like them, it felt like they were sitting on the burner for hours. Yet, other recommendations we tried, we loved. And we would then forward those recommendations to others who were not so thrilled. But I have to say, if you don't have a posted menu or an ez way to make a reservation, no problem. I would just pass you by, plenty of other restaurants to try. You don't even have to update the website with specials. Just put a photo, your hours, email and a menu w/prices. Then I can see if there is anything that interests me.
