    restaurants being exceptionally accommodating

    pegmeister made mention in her "aruba story" that Ricardos went out of their way to prepare a dish for her at lunch that was not on their regular lunch menu. kudos to them.

    how often are we in restaurants that have the words "no substitutions" on the menus and the places not willing to bend an inch in order to please the patron?

    when in aruba a few weeks ago, we came across very accommodating vs. not so much.

    the accommodating was at Buccaneer..........the chef sent out some "bang bang shrimp" as an appetizer. our friend judella and i went wild over it.
    (it was better than Madame Janette) one of us said, gee i wish this was an entree. the waiter said, give me a minute and i can find out. he came back and said it can be ordered as an entree!

    the not so much came from "The Restaurant" @ tierra del sol, when i asked to have a vegetable in place of the potatoes. the answer was "sorry no".

    where in aruba have you found that the restaurants really do accommodate the diner?

    When we are staying at the Ritz we can order off any menu we want while sitting in the main bar area. It worked well as we could have our favorite person assist us with dinner regardless of what we wanted...we did not do this every time but they always allowed us to order from any of the restaurants and it was appreciated!

    I would go back to Ricardo’s in a heartbeat. Normally, I would not ask for something that wasn’t on the menu but I decided it didn’t hurt to ask. The server didn’t hesitate she just headed to the kitchen and asked. I in return told her how much I appreciated it an left a little extra on the tip. Here at the Bucuti we had the buffet for Thanksgiving and neither of us cared for the pumpkin soup. The server noticed and was insisting we let her bring some other type of soup. Overall I think restaurants go out of their way to make you happy.

    ... I especially love that Pega Pega will let me have my Bright in a glass or the bottle....

    Let me take back the nice thing I said about the Bucuti. This evening we stopped by Elements to ask if we could come in for coffee and dessert. Never in a million years did I expect them to say NO! I understand about reservations etc. but there was not a single soul in the restaurant and the deck was half empty. They told us to go to the bar where the service has been less than stellar this week. We went back to the room instead. I did stop and speak to the concierge and told her it was no way to treat hotel guests.

    I will be honest I am speechless. They want to be 1st class....that was an easy 1st class move...heck the HI would do that

    Yes, agreed with Andrea. The chef of Bucanners coming to your table and offering to prepare any dish, that are not on the menu. He also provided his contact info, so we can let him know in advance what dish we would like to have on the table.
    The other place is Aquarius at Renaissance mall. Now they are have a new chef and he is also offering to cook a whole fish for you or tuna sushi rolls. Overall, we noticed some improvements serving customers in many restaurants

    The funny thing is we can see into the restaurant from our room and over an hour later it’s still basically empty!

    The concierge listened and said she would have someone get back to me. I told her not to bother as we were checking out in the morning and have no plans to return.

    i think had they offered the dessert to go I wouldn’t even have been as aggravated
