Thank you so much for the kind words, all! And the great advice. Today is infinitely better. Will write more later, but a trip to Superfoods Home/Hardware area (upstairs) and a call with the maintenance guy solved the issues - he walked my friend through working the heating system. Thank you again!

Thank you Aruba4ever. Last night if someone would have offered me a ticket back home and a refund of my vacation investment, I would have gladly accepted it.

But today was wonderful and I am glad I have seven more days here.

Even though I was Queen Karen with my ranting last night and my friend wishes he could have shot me with a tranquilizer dart when I made my post, we had an amazing meal at Passions on the Beach. I brought my friend down here because I knew he would appreciate the dining experiences. The spring rolls and grouper were spectacular.

This morning, I was able to resolve a couple issues (which felt like one after another after an extremely long travel day) by a trip to Super Foods. A visit to the upstairs area resolved two of the problems: the jarring lighting (we picked up battery-operated candles and twinkle lights) and a stopper for the jacuzzi. A call to the maintenance guy solved the freezing unit. (There is a trick to unlocking the thermostat, he explained it to my friend and now we are not frozen out).

After Super Foods, we wandered over to La Terrazza restaurant, the view tempted us, and had lunch. My meal was absolutely spectacular: Frutti de Mar pasta dish. My friend's wasn't so great. I would just advise ordering pasta dishes there. By the time we finished eating and admiring the view, it was happy hour and we both lost our Aruba Ariba virginity - a tasty, heavily alcoholic drink I suspect. It was delicious. I am definitely going to be visiting the again to enjoy both the drink and the fruits of the sea pasta.

We wandered back to the condo, my friend (a pale redhead) decided to hang out indoors while I floated in the empty pool steps away from our condo - there I met an absolutely lovely woman from New Jersey. I mentioned how surprised I was by the lack of people in the pool - she said it was like that even pre-Covid. In the course of our chatting, she told me that Twist of Flavors had a special tasting menu on Saturday night. She highly recommended I make reservations immediately. I cut my floating short and followed her direction. So glad I did. My friend was dumbfounded by the quality and the price. For $25 each, we had four excellent courses that would compete with any high-end Minneapolis restaurant: Beef Carpaccio, Crab Cake, Escargot, and Strawberries and Ice Cream. (While this may sound simplistic, the flavors and quality were sublime.) Plus we received probably about six glasses of wine in the course of the dinner. Uffda. And the staff and service were attentive and entertaining.

My friend said if I he had not been there, he would not have believed me if I told him about it.

So, make it a priority to reserve a table for the tasting menu (you must specify this) at Twist of Flavors on Saturday night next time you're here.

Glad no one offered me a ticket back home last night as I am eagerly looking forward to the rest of the coming week.

Good to hear that your vacation has begun and you are enjoying it! We like TOF as well, especially later in the afternoon when it tends to be quiet and we need a break from the sun. It’s nice to go in for a glass of wine and appetizers. Of course, from there we usually head into the casino.

Glad you enjoyed TOF tasting menu. I did that on one trip and it was well worth it. They were generous with the red, white wines and I think at the end there was a dessert wine. It was worth the money and the small bites including dessert was worth the $25 bucks..

So glad the lemons you were handed on the first evening of your visit have been rectified and that it is now lemonade.

The rooftop Italian place is a favorite of ours and their pizza is excellent. I am sorry that your friend did not enjoy.
TOF certainly made up for the disappointment.

Happy that things have been rectified.

Your timing could not have been better..........a very good week for you to get out of town.

Pegmeister and ArubaAce, Twist of Flavors is definitely a new favorite! Andrea J, I love Terrazza Italiana and will be visiting again before my trip is over. My friend did clean up all his chicken piccata, so it mustn't have been that terrible .

He is just amazed by the quality of the restaurants here...even if they're not fancy. For instance, he loved Bugaloe even though he wasn't expecting much given the location - he figured he was paying for the view. And my new friend and her husband introduced us to The Local Store last night - their shrimp wrap was spectacular. (They figured we needed a break from the hoity toity after our meal at Senses last night.)

Senses was phenomenal. Every dish had exotic ingredients that the chef spent days, weeks, and months creating - from freeze-dried strawberries grown from his own garden to blackened, pickled garlic. My friends at home always want explanations of the photos of the meals I post on instagram (ideastowords is my handle if you want to check it out), but "Norwegian wild boar" and "pork belly" just don't quite cut it when every dish is created with intense precision. The chef is both artist and a scientist. (My friend just saw me typing away on this post and he said, "In Aruba you'll turn into a Beluga.")

My friend was not going to get the wine pairing after way too much fun at Twist of Flavors the night before. But then, I let him share my wines and they were so good he decided to take the plunge. That speaks volumes for the quality of the pairings. He is *not* a drinker.

He has traveled all over Europe and the Philippines (he has a brother there), so I'm especially pleased that I am able to introduce him to new experiences. He adored the butterfly farm and took all kinds of slow-motion video - about the only way you can capture those bright blue butterflies it seems, and we drove out to the donkey farm yesterday. I am extremely pleased with myself for making it there without incident; my first Aruban driving experience.

Will write more tomorrow when he's on the plane home but, long story long, we're having a great time!

If you get back to TOF, try their cheesy, garlicky mushrooms. Those with some nice bread and a glass of Sauvignon blanc are the perfect afternoon snack. Glad you are enjoying your dining experiences.
