A minor clarification to the article; since I was on that plane, I’m pretty sure I took off from Chicago instead of Newark.
Also there were only 166 passengers on the manifest.
The biggest discrepancy was that we were not “horrified to find that there were no taxis.” I was fortunate to be one of the first out of the airport, and there were at least 20 taxis lined up with an expeditor. Perhaps those that came out later had to wait and I’m sure they were frustrated after the long day. I do know that the airport was notified about 5 hours earlier of the situation. My taxi driver said that he received a call ahead of time and notified some of his friends. There was even a news reporter on site and it was on the morning news.
The article also mentioned that we had to wait a few hours in Jamaica. 10 seemed like a little more than a few at the time.
