Your trip reports are amazing. Thank you for the update. We always go to Quinta. I think this year we may try the tapas garden. I need to first show my husband the menu. Glad you had a good experience!
Thanks for the info on Quinta del Carmen....... We've visited 3 times and all good. I on the fence about this July.... but will probably book it. We love the atmosphere!
A wise man is easily fooled. But, only a fool would fool a wise man!
We’ve been to Quinta delCarmen a few times. Love the atmosphere and thought the food was okay. Absolutely loved the desserts. Wouldn’t mind trying it for tapas.
Day 8-Tuesday, June 21, 2022
Lather, Rinse, Repeat
Totally in the groove now, up at 7:30, started the coffee and grabbed the Palapa. Breakfast in the room, still using up wonderful Dutch breads, Dutch ham and Gouda cheeses. So, for me, I also have some small sausages. I made me a ½ sandwich with the sausage, egg and Gouda and ate it right away. On the other half I had some German bologna, ham, an egg and a piece of Gouda cheese. I make the bread in the skillet with some Elle & Vire butter (if you haven’t tried it, you should when here. I can’t find it in the states. The closest thing is President. Anyway, a little butter in the pan and make your skillet toast for the sandwiches. I wrapped up the 2nd half and took it to the beach for my post-first-floating snack. Outstanding with a couple of Amstel Brights with Lime poured into my Yeti. I had to give Deb a couple bites, she was really jealous that I had done that, and she had already eaten hers in the room.
We know we are on our last couple days, so we wanted to stay close for lunch and maximize beach time, especially since we had a 7pm reservation at Oak. We went back to Malmok, I got my usual grouper sandwich plain with some of their Siracha Mayonnaise, Deb got the Tuna Poke Bowl. Both were amazing. Poor Josephine, our waitress (who has been here forever) misunderstood me when I said I would like two of the Siracha Mayonnaise’s. When they brought my sandwich, they brought two full little cups of pure Siracha…lol I had to tell her, that would last me a couple months even though I love it so she apologized and brought back the mixture.
Back out on the beach and into the water. Beach, Pool and Palapa areas have picked up a bit but luckily still not too crazy. After a quick nap on the beach, back up to the quiet pool for a little peaceful chlorine soaking. Today’s experience was much better than yesterday.
Came up around 4:30, Deb told me I could have pre-dinner drinks tonight as she was going to drive to Oak. That was great, we took showers, and I had a couple wonderful rum and diets on the balcony with her.
Headed out to Oak around 6:45, if you go through the Marriott’s lots, you can come out at the roundabout that is between Ritz and Marriott hotel, you then just go straight up that road till you hit the end and take a left and its around the corner, maybe 2 blocks. At most, a 3 min car ride from the Ocean Club.
Dinner and service here are always outstanding, we have been coming since they opened. We started with the Fried Goat Cheese appetizer. Deb had been craving a steak, so she got the Filet. I went with something different and got the Seafood Casserole. It comes in its own small casserole pot with a side of white rice. It was amazingly good and different. It said it was in a Sweet Red Pepper sauce, which it was but it also had a thick consistency. There were 3 large shrimp, several mussels, 3-4 clams and at least 6-8 calamari rings. Several of them were large. Everything was wonderful, even the larger calamari rings were tender. The sauce almost had a bolognaise flavor with the sweet red pepper. I would get this again; it was really good. We were too full for dessert; Deb finished her wine and then I drove as I only had water. Now, on the balcony, we are sharing a nightcap and reliving the day and planning tomorrow like we love to do. The planning part is quick, “repeat today with a different dinner”..lol
Elle & Vire butter is excellent! I also love their yogurts. The plain with honey is superb. If you don’t want to take a trip to the supermarket, the convenience store at the Ocean Club carries their products. I did go on the internet to see if I could order online. Unfortunately for some unknown reason, Elle & Vire is not sold in the US.
Your dinner at Oak sounds wonderful. My sister-in-law and her husband are on the island now. She tried to get reservations at Oak but couldn’t get them, so now she has to wait until January. We’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Sounds like another wonderful day in paradise. So glad you enjoyed Oak. Enjoy all the moments left. I know…time goes by too quickly!!!
