Normal start to the day, we did breakfast in while I ran down and got the Palapa. Got our 2nd choice with no line at 7:45am. Owner’s meeting in Champions at 9:30am-10:30am. I must say, I really like this much better. It allows you to go ahead and get your stuff ready to go so that once you attend the meeting you walk out and enjoy the rest of your day. The old afternoon time just chopped up your day and often conflicted with people getting ready for dinner. I think this is better, some may not.

Deb was already out at the Palapa. We had a little better beach access & view today. The side of the beach on the Surf Club side seems to be a bit less seaweed in the water (on the bottom). It doesn’t bother me so much; Deb prefers the sandy part.

For lunch, we walked down to Moomba. Lunch menu was about as we remembered. Deb got her seafood salad (grilled grouper, a few pieces of fried calamari, shrimp and crab. She loves it. I got (of course) the grouper sandwich on whole wheat roll. Again, I have had the fish in some version every day since coming. This was was also very good. A couple of drinks and we were out for about $50.

Back for an afternoon of soaking, napping, a few beers from our cooler backpack and relaxing time. After about 3pm, we moved to the ‘Quiet Pool” area. This is a favorite area of ours. Deb loves to read, and I just sit in the water at the edge. That is what most people do. Then, there are the “others”. People that either don’t read the sign, don’t know or mostly, don’ care. Today when I got there, there were two kids, very small, about 4-6 years old. Luckily, they were good swimmers. Parents no where in sight. Very loud but the worst part was they were messing over in the corner where there is a small opening where the water falls to the other side into the bigger pool. They were sticking their heads in there. It got a bit uncomfortable. I kept my eye on them and luckily, they moved along after about 10 min. The other was a family group that came and hung out for 30 min or so and a lady that decided to do laps in the pool..lol I am about as tolerant as anyone and I don’t confront people. There were so many other open spaces on the other much larger main pool area. These resorts create different areas to accommodate a variety of the needs of their guests. Deb and I would’t go plop down in the baby pool area and take up space for families and kids..lol

Grabbed showers and watched the sunset to mostly finish prior to leaving around 7 for a reservation at Quinta Del Carmen. We popped into Superfood on the way to grab some wine and a couple other things and then Quinta is just right down the road.

In coming to Aruba for 21 years, we have never eaten here. We knew of it, read about it, saw reviews but for whatever reason, it’s never been on our list. After looking at the menu again, we decided to try it. We are trying to visit a few different places this time to broaden our options in the future. Quinta did not disappoint. Deb started with a glass of Merlot. I chose the Diplomatica Old Fashioned. It was one of the best old fashioned that I have ever had. They are a bit sweet, and I was the driver, so 1 was the limit for me.

We went with the Beef Carpaccio; they split it and gave us our own plates. It was so good, with pine nuts and parmesan and sauce drizzled on it. Small salad and parm crisps on the side, really good.

For Dinner, I got the stuffed Lobster shell. It had lobster meat and shrimp in a creamy sauce filling the lobster shell and served it over good, mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. Pricy at $49, but it was tasty, we don’t order lobster much, so this was a treat!

Deb got the Seafood Paella. Spanish rice with mussels, shrimp and clams. She loved it. While we were stuffed, we splurged and got the Mocha Crème Brule. Deb also got the Kiss of Fire Coffee with Grand Marnier and Kahula. They have such a beautiful house and grounds, it’s a great experience. They also have a new Tapas Garden and Tapas menu if you want to go that route. We will be back.

    Time is passing too quickly now....{{sigh}}
Hi Brad! Today will be my first day of work since returning. Ran a lot of errands, appointments Mon & Tuesday so catching up on some threads. I love that you posted about Quinta De Carmen. I went there when it first opened and another time. I had a great dinning experience and it looks like you both did as well. I love Manhattans, Old Fashion. The stuffed lobster sounds delicious to me and I want to try it on the next trips. I've seen some photos on Trip Advisor. Glad you enjoyed Oak. I dinned there once and they make a great steak. I will go again next trip. Continue to have fun and thanks for report!

    Day 9 (seriously?) Wednesday, June 22, 2022

So, this morning was no different, got the same Palapa that we had for the last 3 days, very nice, no one to the front for the equivalent of 2 palapas, only a tree to the right and plenty of room so this is a great one for us.

Finished up our breakfast stuff in the room today, I did the same as yesterday with a sausage, egg & gouda ½ sandwich. I did another ½ with bologna, ham, egg and Gouda that I wrapped and took to the beach to eat with my Round 1 of Balashi Chill…lol

Did the usual beach, beer, soak in the AM. We knew our friend Gabriel was supposed to be working lunch at the Waves Bar at the Marriott Hotel next door so we went over around 12:15 looking for him and one of the other waiters told us he had gone home and wouldn’t be back until Saturday. We are sad because we will miss him this trip after not seeing him since 2019 (other than the brief time the other day). So we punted.

We had only been to Moomba once for lunch and Deb was interested in something different there so after a brief walk back to our palapa and a quick cool off in the ocean, we headed to Moomba.

I for some reason was craving a pina colada, I even got the one with a rum floater in hopes that it would be a better and stronger drink. I haven’t had one in years and this one was good! I got my grouper sandwich plain again with their garlic mayonnaise. Deb went with their Tuna Wrap and really liked it. My grouper was good but the pieces in the sandwich were a bit smaller today than before, so I left some bread on the plate. What is interesting is I sent a pic of the menu to my brother in-law, commenting on how we knew we were in the right place when you see on the menu that the Grouper sandwich is only $11 but the Burger is $22…lol

Afternoon was also more sun, soaking, a couple drinks. Deb got a nap in, I didn’t. Around 3ish, I moved to the Quiet pool. Someone had put towels on two different spots, and they were no where to be found and it looked like they had never been there, very frustrating.

Anyway, it worked out, finally someone moved, and we sat there and enjoyed the quiet pool for our last hour before going up for showers before dinner.
Again, Deb decided to not drink so she would drive to our reservation at OceanZ. I would have the cocktail on the balcony after showers as we watched sunset before we left. It was a beautiful day and sunset! A little hazy but its all still good here.

We headed to OceanZ about 7:15 for our 7:30 reservation. We arrived and parked across the street in the parking area along the newly constructed walkway…which is amazing by the way! This happened during the pandemic apparently. It stretches all the way from outside the Ritz, all the way down to Arashi beach I believe. We have not seen all of it in daytime because we are serious beach slugs who worship the sea of valium, eat from places alongside the sea of valium and and are apparently paralyzed by the sea of valium. The exception is when you must escape the sea to obtain dinner.

Dinner was amazing. I have heard the food and service were exceptional at OceanZ but we were still impressed. We were welcomed and given bread and a small shrimp/sauce. Deb ordered wine but I had water as I was driving back. We got the Coquille Japanese Style, which was three scallops with an Asian style sauce, really good!

Deb got the Sea Bass in a Caper Sauce, cooked perfectly, with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. I got the Shrimp OZ. There were 6 jumbo grilled shrimp with grilled pineapple, mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. All were very good, Deb got a cappuccino as we were too full for desert.
I have to say the service here was by far the best we have had in Aruba. I still remember many years ago where we all used to talk about the “Aruban Service Style”. It was slow, laid back, casual but for many US people, not European, we were sometimes frustrated as we are not used to a longer, relaxed dining experience. Aruba’s finer restaurants seem to have transformed over the last few years in that they are more flexible depending on their guests. Some prefer that European style, and some prefer more of an experience where once you are done, bring us the check

Regardless, OceanZ Is a keeper, I look forward to what other dishes they bring to their menu.
Got back in time for a little hot tub time with a drink, finished on the balcony and we are off to bed. Tomorrow is our last full day….soo soo sad…Can’t believe it’s gone this quickly.

So glad you loved OceanZ. It’s on our list for September. Heard the lobster over linguini is amazing if you are looking to try other options next time. Also wondering why you did not give Waves a try without Gabriel there who I know is wonderful. Food is delicious at Waves and the rest of wait staff is great too. We know many of them. Enjoy your last full day. Thank you so much for taking us along. Your reports were awesome. The last day is always sad. We usually feel like we don’t belong seeing all the new faces who just arrived. Lol. Safe travels!
