Deb and Tom Escape From Reality

We made it! We left home at 4:30 am for our 6:30 departure from Philadelphia. Miami was next, and then off to One Happy Island! We landed a bit ahead of schedule and we were off to the luggage carousel. Our bags came out immediately and we got in the long line for customs. As best as we could tell, everyone was very respectful of space and distancing. The line moved quickly, our luggage was scanned, our temperatures were checked and we were outta there! Our rep from Tropic Car Rental was waiting to take us to our car. For the first time ever, I forgot to print my car paperwork at home so that delayed the process, but only for a few minutes.

Our first visit is to the Renaissance. For the past few years, I have been maximizing my visits by staying in town for a few days before moving to my timeshare. We had a minor disappointment when we pulled in to the hotel and up to the valet stand. Perhaps I should have read my email a bit better when they said they changed my room. The marina side is under renovation so we were moved to the ocean side...which is the family side...where we are currently listening to a loud game of Marco Polo from our balcony. BUT...we are having our first of many Balashi beers, and the kids are adorable and we are in paradise, so I am over it.

While I have enjoyed every single visit to this amazing island, it is very clear that this one will be very different. Everyone is beyond thrilled to have us here. The level of kindness and service has exceeded what I have already considered to be outstanding.

We are hungry, so it's off to Cuba's Cookin' for some dinner.

    MARCO...............................POLO!

So glad that you are there.
I know that you were tempted to jump in and join the game!

Thank you for your checking in on a very busy move in day.

I prefer the Ocean Suites.....aside from Marco Polo, because I love the campus, the pools and the space in the units.

Enjoy and remember if you do wind up playing.................NO PEEKING.

    Have fun and thanks.

How crowded was the flight out of Philly? (We fly out of Philly).

Do they have the whole Marina Hotel closed? I do like the Ocean Suites better-that is where we stayed the first time and fell in love with Aruba.

I can't wait to hear more about your trip! Enjoy!

So glad you made it, I'd like to try the Ocean Suites sometime. Was airport arrival an issue time-wise or was everyone playing nicely?

The flight appeared to be pretty full, but we were lucky enough to be in row 2 and I never looked back to check.

Everyone played nice! No issues at all, especially in Aruba. There were a few maskless folks in Philadelphia, though. We kept our distance from them. Frequent mask announcements were made, but we never saw anyone actually being spoken to about it.

The streets are empty here. I feel like we are in a sci-fi movie. This is not the Aruba i know.

There are several large cruise ships docked in town. They have been here for about 10 days, according to one of my local friends. They are crewed-only, of course.

Dinner at Cuba's Cookin' was outstanding, and so was the service.

    Time for slumber.

Enjoy your stay! After 1 stay at the Main hotel ( marina side ) we have had multiple stays on the family side. We much prefer the ocean side for the larger rooms, refrigerator and the surrounding property.

Thanks so much for posting! I miss the island so much

There were two big Norwegian ships in port and two small ships while I was there - Freewinds & another that I didn't notice a name of.

Amazing how many annoying things we can handle when on vacation in paradise! They just don't seem as annoying as the do in Jersey! Can't wait to hear how the rest of your trip goes!

Have fun! We love the Ocean Suites so much that we purchased a timeshare there a few years ago. It can definitely get loud with the kids in the pool, but we've learned to overlook them. There is nothing better than watching the island wake up, early in the morning from our balcony. I really miss that view. If you get a chance, have breakfast on the private island. One is enough for two people. That's my favorite way to start the day.

Most of my post got cut off, so I’m rewriting. ☹️
