    May13-23rd trip report—at last!

I always have good intentions of writing a trip report while we are in Aruba and then vacation state of mind keeps me away from phone/iPad. This trip didn’t even have me checking in with my kids-LOL. We had a direct JB flight that was supposed to leave at 7 but we got off late due to a dirty plane they claimed but my guess is they were trying to fix a bathroom as one was out of order. We had the plane trip from hell thanks to a little guy who’s mom let him be an obnoxious toddler- it was mom whom I felt like choking, not the little ones fault. Of course when we landed and got off the plane we couldn’t lose this family- mom, sis, toddler, grandparents and the Dad who was ordered around by them all- good luck to him(felt bad for him, hard to explain but feel like it is not going to be a lasting union). Anyhow we finally got in a cab and bye bye to Nikko and family! We spent our first 5 days at ABC and the last 5 days at Divi AI. Our first night was the meet up of forum members but after our plane ride I was done so we just went to Twist of Flavors for dinner. We got the early bird special. Was okay, just okay. I want to like this place but it’s really just eh for me. Probably not going back. We were in bed early as it was a long day ( although we may have gone into Albrahama- I cant remember).
Tuesday morning I was up at 5 with a headache( think I was dehydrated, never drink enough water the day we travel). Went down and sat quietly under a palapa by our friends in the dark chugging water trying to lose my headache. Finally felt better when the water was all gone, hubby came down with coffee and we sat and caught up with our friends. Most days I was up at 5,sitting with friends and chatting until my husband came down with coffee. When the coffee showed up I walked the beach and then we went up,had breakfast and spent the day on the beach until 3 or 4. We would go to the bar and have happy hour drinks(2 for 1,12-1pm) and split wings or quesadillas for lunch. In the afternoons our friends would leave and we would sleep, read, swim, repeat. We had dinners at Elliotti’s,Doubledown( went to watch Bruins),Bingos and Salt and Pepper. All was yummy,Bingos being my fVorite. The first week we had great luck at casino and we were up 900 dollars. The winning ended when we moved to the Divi but we didn’t go crazy- when our 50 bux each was gone we were done.
On Saturday we moved to Divi AI. I had booked a pool room thinking we would be in the new building-WRONG.. We were in Vista 1 in what used to be a garden view room. We were on the 1st floor and if we were on our patio and turned to the right we got a corner view of the pool. Anyhow I did like the room but was initially upset we weren’t in the new building. I have to say that we thought the food this year was so good- best of all the times we have stayed here. We ate dinners at Ginger,Red Parrot, back to Ginger and Pure Lime. All were really good, the waiter and waitresses were all very personable and fun, desserts were yummy. We love Ginger and being able to go 2x was great. Our last full day we had a couples mango body scrub and massage(80 minutes)-OMG was awesome! Not cheap but so worth it. We did this because of our casino winnings and I would do it again! We did the dinner special (for Divi/Tam AI guests) at Windows. Was really good but there were only 2 other couples there...
Overall we had a really fun, relaxing trip. Didn’t do much but read, beach, casino, eat and reconnect with friends. We had to shorten our trip this year by 2 days because of our grandson being baptized on Mother’s Day and we both agree that next year we will be staying at least 12 days! I would love to find a rental at ABC or Casa Del Mar for 2 weeks in the same room so we don’t have to move- time will tell...

Enjoyed your trip report! Sorry we missed you this year! ]

I was under the impression that the pool view rooms were in the new building as well. They’re usually good with honoring requests for a certain building. Only once did we end up with a room we didn’t like. At first I was going to live with it but I ended up going to the desk and they put us in the building we originally requested. It’s good to hear that the food quality was good. That’s one of the areas we felt was never consistent. As for TOF, we felt the same as you.

Glad you had a fun trip.

Thanks for reporting on your trip..... I've walked by TOF bunches of time and just wasn't impressed with the décor... so never tried it.

I've yet to try TOF for dinner. I always have them on my dinner list but never make it. I have gone there for breakfast and their dutch pancakes were awesome. I also attended their wine paring and the food wines were excellent. Supposedly they have a burger night on Fridays which is supposed to be really good per the reviews I've read but then there is Alfies and Local Store for burgers.

    Thanks for sharing your report!

I know what it is like trying to write a trip report while on vacation. I usually wait until I get home. Sorry you did not get to the met up with the forum group. It sounds like you had a very trying travel day. The rest of your time was perfect especially the casino win. We have two months until we leave and I can hardly wait. Thanks for taking the time to share your story.

Thanks again for taking the time to share! We are headed down in 10 days and my wife Deb says " your reports are boring now". That just tells me that I have learned to relax better! Sorry you had the toddler issue to start but sounds like you had a great trip after that !

Thanks so much treating us all to your report. We like ABC but I know it drives people crazy with the 5 am papala hold. Its great for early risers like us. We have missed 2x's out on Kandy's list for our week next year. So if your interested in going back make sure your keep checking her wonderful ABC site.
