    Memory Lane

With no current reports to read.... and not being able to write mine this year.... I did a memory lane trip and viewed a number of my past year's trip reports.... prob'ly shoulda left them alone.... had a lot of smiles and some sadness being stuck here this year!

Chuck, let's take this thread and have folks post a memorable post from a past trip. I'll start (from 2016):

So today was the big birthday surprise. It was an item that has been on Pam's wish/bucket list almost forever. So this morning, about 2 hours ago, at an altitude of about 10,000 feet over the north end of the island, Pam and I both jumped out of a perfectly good flying airplane. It was probably the biggest adrenaline rush I've ever experienced, and it lasted well after we were safely back on the ground. The view was absolutely stunning, you could see the entire island and the coast and mountains of Venezuela. Ty and Michele were awesome and had us checked out and ready to jump in no time. I cannot say enough good things about them and the entire Skydive Aruba team. Pam was greatly surprised and had a wonderful time.

Great idea Walt...... Here's where I lost my glasses, hat and dignity all at the same time in 2018!

That ended up being a serious understatement....!! I got my butt kicked trying to get outta the water. Knocked down.... tossed in the surf and got up again.... still had my prescription sunglasses and hat. Quite shaken.... I got knocked down again.... lost my hat, glasses and a good portion of my dignity. I finally struggled outta the water, covered in sand, in my ears, eyes, nose, mouth.... and yup.... there too! My swimsuit pockets had significant sand in them. Struggled back to the palapa to catch my breath.... still shaken.... but will survive. The water was the champion of this confrontation.

So many fun memories! The time that came to mind first was when we went over to Alhambra and I saw Andrea playing the 88 Fortunes so of course, I sat at the machine next to her and started playing. My second spin I hit a handpay. I think it was for $2300. Andrea leaned over, looked at the machine, slapped me on the arm and said “I can’t believe it”! I think she was congratulating me. The attendant was all excited when she came to validate the win and people gathered around to say congratulations. It was interesting as their were multiple languages being spoken and I didn’t really understand what they were saying but I knew from their enthusiasm.

We madesettlement this morning! So excited to be able to wake up to this tomorrow morning! The picture does not do the view justice. It is much better in person.

Not the craziest most, but surely the happiest and it was the first one that came to mind.

My very first visit was a free flight through Airtran (?) points Had to use them or lose them.
Met locals at the airport telling me how lucky I was going at this time
It was the King's Birthday and the king and queen was visiting from "Holland" and told us when and where to see them
Was also their Memorial Day celebration. So much to see and experience for a first visit. Met local military men (bought them starbucks)
Stayed at the Renn. seeing pink flamingo's. Walking to the market and just talking with older locals every night while listening to the music
Had to stay longer.... called my work and told them "all flights" canceled due to the King and Queen visiting. (a little white lie..lol)
Best part prior to this I was blessed to be on this forum telling me all about the "one happy island"

I was reading thru some of my postings and found that:
    -we are pretty boring
-we spend much time in the ocean, pool and casinos
-we spend very little $ on booze....we make up for that in the casinos
-we have always had a wonderful time
-in 50+ visits we have had exceptionally wonderful weather except for just once...where it was more cloudy and few showers
-we have had wonderful visits with old and new friends
