Having a car just opens up the possibilities on island, and driving to Superfoods is much safer than walking. Loving your reports!

    Thursday 12/12
Aruba Bob van picked us up at 830a and we headed to Saveneta to gear up at Club Arias.
We had the pleasure of both Kent and Coco as our guides. Mangel Halto was calmer than we had ever seen it. It rained, but that did not deter us one bit. We saw tons of fish (especially large schools of blue tang and several kinds of parrot fish) and many varieties of coral (including brain, stag, and fan.) Coco took a bunch of photos, very much looking forward to getting them via email.

Salads in the room and down to the pool for the afternoon.
We ladies did the Aruba Aloe coffee scrub workshop, while the gents continued to lounge poolside. After learning the proper form to skin an aloe leaf, we each combined Aruba Aloe lotion, coconut oil, coffee grounds and sugar in a 4 oz glass jar.
Another short rain shower and we headed up to the rooms to get cleaned up for dinner.

I was too slow purchasing the painting that I had been stalking in the local art store (an ostrich with a comical expression and large eyes.) I don’t associate ostriches with Aruba, but there was something cheerful about him. Anyway, missed it by 15 minutes. The nice lady in the store said she would check with the artist to see if she has any more ostriches.

Terazza Italiana did not disappoint. DH and I both had pumpkin soup and chicken with mushroom lasagna. Our friends had grouper and seafood linguini. Everyone cleaned their plates except me, I took half in a box, as I needed to save some room for dessert. We were all still so full, we waited an hour before heading back to Mangos to finally score our deep-fried cheesecake. I was just as decadent as we remembered.

Another glorious day of sun, delicious food, and adult beverages on the books. Tomorrow will be a beach day.

I’m so disappointed you missed your painting! Hope the artist will come through with something similar. It’s such a nice shop there.

    Friday 12/13

Spent the majority of the day under palapa 83 and in the ocean if front of La Cabana. Brought a cooler with veggies and dip, and sandwiches from the room down to the beach for brunch. Making excellent progress on our cache of rum. The breeze seemed less than half its normal strength, so the bugs were more of a nuisance than usual, and we were forced to finally open the packet of OFF wipes we have had in the beach bag for years. DH had his fill of sand, so we headed to the pool for a couple of hours, until it was time to get cleaned up for dinner.

Took a taxi to Matthews for the optional dinner add on to the Aruba Ray Comedy Show. Got a fabulous table right by the water and were treated to a gorgeous sunset. We arrived early for our 615p reservation and missed happy hour by a minute, but just as well, that we did not have more than one frozen drink, as we would have been miserably full. The 3-course menu included choice of soup or salad; choice of petit filet, grouper, or chicken cordon blue; and tiramisu. All delicious, we will certainly add Matthews to our list of restaurants. We were done with our dinner before 730p and had an hour to burn before the show. We wandered around Casa del Mar, appears to be a very nice resort.

The show is in the members lounge. Doors opened at 8p. There were around 40 people in the room. It could have easily held another 30. We were initially scheduled for 4 comedians, but another came in on a cruise ship, so we were treated to 5. All very different, with varying degrees of raunchiness, our foursome laughed a ton. We would do it again.

Taxi back to La Cabana, DH and I collapsed into bed. Our friends went for a quick swim in the ocean under the full moon.

    Hi Andrea and Peg,

I sent the artist, Erika Moran, a Facebook friend request. She had one more ostrich in a top hat, unfortunately he did not quite hit the mark like the other did. Hopefully she will have a cheeky ostrich available when we come back next December.

That’s too bad but it’s a great excuse to go back to Aruba and hopefully she’ll do something similar. My purchases there have been the Djucu keychains. The Djucu is supposed to be lucky and I always have mine attached to my cross body bag when we go to the casino. I did well this past trip. Tom was not doing so well. While he was in the Glitz I ran in and bought him a keychain and his luck turned around. You really have to be a believer.
