This has happened to me when I was traveling alone. I think they thought I was smuggling.
One time in Australia I was sniffed out by a Beagle. I had a banana that I forgot about. LOL

A relative was searched and questioned in Philly after spending the summer between his freshman and soph. year in college at Cambridge in England. He did some traveling through Europe on the weekends. Since he was traveling alone they suspected him of smuggling snails, yes snails, because he had been in France. Even though he had also been in Amsterdam, they were not looking for pot.

It's crazy that they can look at what you have on your computer. People who work in finance or medical field(I am sure other fields too) can have sensitive information on their computer. It seems like an invasion of privacy of the person being searched and an invasion of privacy of the information of the clients/patient/ students/company's personal info may be on the computer. Even when I was teaching I info the personal info of the kids and parents contacts on my computer.

As a follow-up, I have discovered that they actually removed the memory cards from my laptop computer and my video camera. I know this because they put the cards back in the wrong devices. My video camera wouldn't work because the card from my laptop wasn't properly formatted for the camera. What did they do with these cards that they couldn't do while they were installed in the devices?

I am so sorry that happened to you! I can't believe they are allowed to search phones/computers with no cause. I get the random pat down...no worries there but this seems beyond over the top!
Just Booked trip 36- Trip report starting in June.
