    Trip #15 - 5/4-5/19

We made it! Delta flights from Syr>Atl>Aua were mostly smooth and on time. We had a 2 hr layover in ATL so had breakfast and Bloody Mary’s there, and picked up 4 bottles booze at duty free. I figured it would be a cost savings w the sin tax here, but I did check duty free at AUA upon arrival and prices were comparable. There were a few planes arriving at the same time and the lines at the immigration hall were longer than I’ve ever seen. Most people were getting sent through happy flow lines but everyone who had the online ED form (including us) was sent to the much slower manual line. Of course they only had 3 agents on duty. This will be the last time I use the online process, as I watched all the folks with the paper forms, who were well behind us in line originally skip through the happy flow lines about 15-20 mins ahead of us. :-(. Took about 45 mins to make it through and fortunately our luggage was already off the carousel and it was a quick exit from there. Bully was waiting patiently. He looks awesome and is feeling great. He accommodated our request for a quick stop at Lings for staples (beer and mixers!) and we finally made it to Playa Linda close to 5 pm.

We quickly changed into suits and packed up a cooler to head straight to the beach. Our plan was to watch the sunset then pop over to Carlitos to try to catch the Derby. We were hungry so grabbed burgers and fish sandwiches from Pelican and brought them back to the palapa. The sunset never happened and we ended up just staying at our palapa enjoying our food and too many drinks, kinda watched the derby at the beach bar. Called it an early night by about 8:30.

I was down to the beach around 6:30 and secured a front row palapa for the day. Today will be a lazy beach day. Hope to meet up with Walt and Pam at Chihuahas tonight for Cinco de Mayo. Eduardo’s just opened and I’m off to grab my first açaí bowl!

Same thing happened to us on the last visit - online forms seemed to be sent to the manned stations rather than happy flow. I will stick to the paper form next time too.
Enjoy your front row! Oh how I wish I was there! I am interested to know if there is any talk around Playa Linda about moving chickees back or anything? I was thinking since they are 1st come, 1st served, they might be okay? I don't want to hijack this thread about palapas, but I am interested in the word around Playa Linda specifically.

Hey guys, glad you made it! Sorry about the immigration lines. Was Customs open? Did you have to pay duty on your booze? We'll definitely see you tonight at Chihuahuas 7-ish... (but we might sneak down and visit you guys later this morning). Welcome to Aruba!

We always use the online form and as soon as we show it they direct us to the Happy Flow as long as you have the newer passport. I don’t think we’ve gone before an agent in the last six trips. Go figure???

    Welcome to Aruba.
That is a pain re: the online immigration thing.
Sometimes I feel like, damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Enjoy your time on Aruba and have fun with Walt and Pam for Cinco celebration.

PS....I did not know Bully was around. I was told he would be on vacation for the first 2 weeks of May.

Tracey - Playa Linda has always conformed to the government rules (anyone can use our palapas but not the chairs) so no, there are no plans to change their system. Our property does not extend far from the beach walk so removing palapas really would not be an option. Our annual members meeting is next week and I’ll update more if I hear different. There were a few non-guests on our beach today. Security did come inform them that they were free to use the shade but they removed the loungers that they had helped themselves to. We have seen this happen in the past so no different.

Spent the early part of the day on the beach. Headed up to settle into our permanent room early afternoon, then cleaned up and off to Chihuahas to meet Walt and Pam and their friends. We were the first to arrive but the place filled quickly with a lively crowd. Food was good and the shots and drinks were plentiful. Back to Beach Bar for a couple more then we headed to the lobby bar so our GOT fans could watch the episode streaming on the large screen. Unfortunately it started buffering about halfway through so these fans were not happy. GF and I don’t watch so we stayed at the bar and had no buffering issues at all as our drinks were flowing steadily. Lol.

Andrea - Bully usually is on vacation at this time but he is going to Netherlands later this year so skipped the usual May vacation. Hope you enjoyed Depalm today, looking forward to seeing you soon.
