Mike and I are well into our Aruba routine. This morning took us into town where Mike stocked up on cigars. Then, with my birthday coming on Saturday, he suggested I pick out my gift so we stopped at Little Switzerland. I chose a pair of Marco Bicego gold hoop earrings that are absolutely stunning! He’s definitely my new favorite jewelry designer.
We went to Super Foods on the way home to pick up the items Lings didn’t have. Super Foods wasn’t at all crowded and the selection great so we’re now thinking that going forward this is going to be the supermarket we shop at.
We ate a quick lunch at the Daily Fish next door. The shrimp tempura, seasoned fries and fresh coleslaw were delicious. We will be returning.
Back at the Ocean Club we got to our reserved palapa and found it occupied. The beach attendant had them move. I really hate the awkwardness of the situation but in fairness we DID pay to reserve something- I’m not sure if it’s the chairs that go under the hut or the hut itself because the laws, rules, interpretation, and implementation are confusing and everyone has a different take on it.
The sea was perfect. Weather great- light breeze and temps in the 80s. The water was warm and we had fun watching a pelican dive in and out of the water catching fish. More than a few people were caught off guard as the big bird dove in a few feet away from them!
We left the beach around 5:30 and had a drink on the balcony while watching a spectacular golden orange and red sunset.
A friend from our village is next door at the Surf Club and we’re going to meet up on the beach tomorrow.
Dinner was as Wacky Wahoos The grouper was delicious as usual. I hope we’ll get there again one more time next week.
We won $400 on slots at the Hyatt casino so now we’re even for the trip. (Although it is only Day 2).
Andrea, to answer your question about Ruth Chris- I checked the bill and we were not charged extra for sharing. We ate at the bar so I’m not certain if there would have been a sharing charge had we eaten in the dining room.
We were also entertained by the pelicans diving in to catch fish a few weeks ago. We stayed next door at the Stellaris and agree the water was so warm at this time of year. Wacky Wahoo never disappoints. It was in our top 3 best meals. Thanks for posting! Congrats on the win!

sounds like a wonderful day 2! I had 2 bad experiences with WW, both service and food, years ago and have never been back. I was tempted to give them a third shot this year but didn’t. Maybe next year.
The pelicans were diving so close to the hammock at Renaissance Island they splash would come up through the netting. It was so fun watching them.

I prefer Lings but had to go to SF for my soda and sugar bread. Luckily I was able to get most of what I needed at Lings because it’s so close by.
Loving your very detailed reports and looking forward to reading more

Watching the pelicans, and people’s reactions to their diving, is one of my favorite things to do. On one of our earlier trips I had one that kept coming so close that when he dropped his catch it landed on my back!! Fortunately, it was just one of those little clear white fish.

LOL We rarely win at the Marriott. Last night’s luck came at the Hyatt. Tonight we’re trying our hand at the Ritz.

The Ritz is my favorite spot to gamble. Best of luck.

    Day 3
There was very little wind today, something the locals tell me is a sure sign a storm is coming. The weather report for the next couple of days is not good. Heavy rain both Thursday and Friday. That’s sure to crank up the seaweed too. I feel badly for my friend from my village who is staying at the surf Club. She leaves Saturday so that’s two vacation days lost.
We met her and her friend on the beach today and shared some adult beverages before meeting them for dinner. My friend chose the Old Concucu House. I haven’t eaten there in years and was pleasantly surprised at the tasty meal served. I ordered the Coconut shrimp served with a curry mango sauce. It was very good!
After dinner we stopped by the Ritz where I taught my friend how to play the slots. We started out slow but she quickly got the hang of it.

That place has been on my list for a while but I never make it there, but I might try harder given your coconut shrimp experience!
