Quick story, my daughters boyfriend Henry (we love him to death) has never been out of the country and only flown one other time. We are picking them up at the airport and he joking asked if there would be someone there holding a sign with their name on it. Today's project is making that sign.

Yesterday was our friend Steve's 65th birthday. We got down to the pool area early and wished him happy birthday. We went to Superfoods and Ling's and almost found everything on our list. I gassed up the car and we got back around 10:30. Around 11:00 Steve went off to pool aerobics and everything started happening. He was in the pool when some guy came up and got right in his way beside him. He turned around to give the guy a piece of his mind, and it turned out it was his best friend. They have known each other for over 50 years. After they got out of the pool, the mariachi band from Casamigo tequila came through the property and were pouring tequila shots for everyone. The band played happy birthday for Steve and we all sang along. After the band left, Picnics by Amy showed up with a huge charcuterie board. Since it was also Cinco de Mayo margaritas were on special at the pool bar. I won the first game of bingo, yay! After bingo we floated on the lazy river and went down to Flip Flop bar. We all made plans to go to the View for drinks before dinner. Dinner was at Orale and was kinda blah. Pam had the chicken flautas with super dry chicken and I had the chicken taco salad with no tortilla, by design I guess. Along with Lola it's another one and done for us. The evening wrapped up with one more drink at Moomba and we were in bed by 11:00. We had a great day!

Then, at one in the morning, the phone rings and it's my daughter calling to say their flight was delayed and they wouldn't make their connection in Charlotte. She is in full panic mode. My daughter doesn't fly often and was at a loss and didn't know what to do. While she waited on the phone for the American agent we texted and I told her the limited options available. Around 2 AM they finally were able to get a Jet Blue flight out of JFK in economy. I paid a ton of money for first class flights and now they are stuck in the cattle car on Jet Blue. Believe me when I say I am beyond pissed at American and will be sending a letter demanding compensation. In any event they will arrive a little later than scheduled, but will be here today. Now I'm going to try and get some sleep before trading the rental car for a van.

Your poor daughter, so frustrating! Hopefully, everything goes well today for her arrival so that the real vacation can begin. Have fun.

Sorry that their flight is now all
messed up but glad that they are all set on JB.
I have decided that no airlines are reliable.

Enjoy the kids and show that baby ( now 10?) a wonderful time !!!

Ugh! That’s a rough start to the trip for your daughter. I haven’t been thrilled with American Airlines (or Jet Blue for that matter) for a long time. Delta has been my airline of choice these days. Let’s see how they do for my Aruba flight out of JFK on Monday.
In the meanwhile your daughter and boyfriend will be there today and all will be good! Enjoy!

So sorry to hear about your daughter's delay. But once she gets to Aruba that will quickly become a distant memory. (Not so sure about you to have to do battle with American though!). Your friend's birthday celebration sounds awesome. Glad your trip is so fun! I so miss Aruba...September can't come soon enough!

Too bad your daughter had a rough start. Andrea is right. All airlines are not what they used to be anymore. The pilot shortage is a big problem. Have a great time with the family!
