Thanks for your day! I was wondering how it went. I love Local Store. I can't believe the occupancy is that low at Marriott. Our friend said the Barcelo was at 17% this past week, but I figured Marriott was higher.

I can't believe the first full day is in the books already!

I woke up at 745am and remembered that you could book complimentary palapas online starting at 7am. I know typically they go in the first few minutes. To my surprise a feont row palapa was available so I grabbed it. The wife and I made our way to Starbucks in the lobby and out to the beach around 930am. Our previous Ariba trips have been in October and December. Not the high season months but still pretty busy. When we left the lobby to go out to the beach seeing all the empty pool chairs and then the empty palapas was something to see. We kept commenting to each other thay this was probably a once in a lifetime experience, having all that availability. That trend actually continued theoughout the day. Plenty of chairs at pool and palapas open all day long. We were set up on the beach at our palapa and had a few quick passing showers. Eventually my cousin and his girlfriend woke up. Around noon we met up with them back upstairs and freshened up to go to Brights. While in the room I sent an email to the hospital to set up testing for the four of us for when we need to leave. We have appointments for Wednesday at 11am. I did try to call them rather then email them but could not seem to get the room phone to connect. When I called the front desk to ask for help, she actually suggested that I go to Spytower at Surf Club as one of the other testing sites had a booth set up there where you could sign up to take a free shuttle from Ocean Club to the testing site. This sounded like a good option if the hospital was not cheaper and you could not get an appointment. We headed out in the rental car to Brights. It was very busy when we got there. Many locals picking up birthday and celebratory cakes they had ordered. We picked out a bunch of great items and enjoyed a few in their little dining area. I decided on the way back to show my cousin and his girlfriend the downtown area. It was quiet with it being Sunday, but nice to drive through there. One thing I did notice was that Eagle Beach was considerably busier then Palm Beach. When we came back to the hotel the four of us headed back out to the beach. Our original morning palapa was gone but we grabbed a front row and one right behind it for the rest of the afternoon. We enjoyed a few frozen drinks and aruba aribe's during the happy hour. We went swimming, the water was cool and refreshing. If you love bath water, it was not your day haha. My wife and I really enjoy Ruth's Chris and dine there frequently at home and in Aruba. We decided we would go there for dinner that evening. I put in a reservation for 6:45pm but when we arrived, I think maybe 3 other tables were occupied. The restaurant stayed pretty quiet our entire meal. Unfortunately, it ended up being not the best Ruth's Chris experience. They forgot to prepare an onion soup when the appetizers came out. The steaks came out very tough compared to normal. The butter and spices on the sizzle plate were just a tad off. A few other inconsistencies to normal as well. My cousin and girlfriend had never been and they thought it was a good meal, but my wife and I noticed the irregularities. It was still better then being in cold Connecticut! We finished dinner right around nine. The girls went up to the rooms. My cousin and I went to the Stellaris Casino and it was packed. I told him we could walk over to Ritz Casino. When we got there it was 9:10pm and they informed us the tables would close in 20 minutes and slots at 9:45pm. However most of the table dealers were already beginning to be closed out by the pit boss when we arrived. I did notice a lot less tables compared to slots from when I was at Ritz for my honeymoon in Oct. 2018. We gambled for the remaining time and walked back to Stellaris. I think we are both about even or just slightly down. It definitely was weird ending the night so early. When we got back to Stellaris the in lobby singer entertainer was finishing up as well. I came upstairs to the room and the wife jokingly said how it was weird I was back in the room so early due to the casinos closing. I think we both fell asleep just before 11pm.

Not exactly sure what today brings, other then I woke up at 715am and grabbed side by side front row palapas for our two rooms. I did email Trikes Aruba yesterday to ask about availability for this week but did not get an answer yet. I think we will go see Aruba Ray at Holiday Inn on Tuesday night. Happy we are missing the snow storm back home today!

Nothing better than knowing you are missing a big storm while in Aruba! I’ve heard good things about the Aruba Ray show so it should be a fun evening. Have fun.

Does your avatar Weston mean that's where you live in CT? It's my hometown (but have lived in Riverside for many years)!

A large group of us typically go to New Orleans every year for Mardi Gras but with cancelling of events and parades in New Orleans along with the pandemic we pivoted to still have a vacation during this time period. The last time we were in Aruba was for our honeymoon in October of 2018 so we are very excited to go back!

We leave out of Hartford tomorrow morning on Southwest, connect through Baltimore, and onto our happy place!

As some of you know I work for a Marriott property, and all the properties on the island right now have the associate rate available. This time around we ended up deciding to stay at the Stellaris Marriott. We stayed at the Ritz for our honeymoon. We are bringing my cousin and his girlfriend with us for their first international travel ever. We told them that we are setting the bar high for them, and they will be disappointed when they travel elsewhere in the future. One thing we though was interesting about Stellaris, was that if you book a king bed room, you get a stand up glass shower. If you book a two queen room you get a tub/shower combo. My wife enjoys taking a nice bath or two while on vacation so we opted for the 2 queen room. My cousin opted for the king bed room. The Stellaris did send upgrade offers for view and for Tradewinds club but we declined both. We figured we would take our chances with asking for a complimentary upgrade when we got to the property with the island not being as busy.

We have not mapped out everything we want to do but we are hoping to do a Trikes Aruba tour this time around. It will give my wife and I a new experience while still showing the island to my cousin and his girlfriend. Brights is always a stop for us. Local Store and many great steaks are in the plans for us. My cousin is looking forward to the seafood. We have a car rented through National at the airport. This is the first time we are renting through a company directly at the airport. They were significantly less then a few of the local agencies that we checked in with.

Will do my best to keep you all updated!
