no, I don't remember the rag man.
I do remember that my mom and her mom spoke of a ragman in S. Boston....that would have been in the 30s.

I remember a man that had a vehicle of some sort...might have been a motorcycle with a side car....he sharpened knives and scissors.

you mentioned the hole in the ground for the garbage.
omg, that was my job to put the stuff in there.
also once a week I remember having to take the inner container out and having to hose it down and use Lestoil .
I wonder why I had that job?

Thankfully my father had the job of hosing out the garbage pail. What I remember about the rag man was he would start yelling and we would run outside because he always let us pet the horse. My mother would give him old clothes and newspapers. This man also sharpened knives. It would have been in the 50s.

On a serious note, I got a call from my mom's assisted living on Thursday that my mom was in distress and being rushed to the hospital. Because of the quarantine, I couldn't go in the building. I had to sit by the phone all day and wait for someone from the hospital to call me with an update. She was admitted and has pneumonia in both lungs. She has been tested for covid 19 and is in isolation. I have no idea when we will get the results back. I really doubt that she has it because she's been dealing with some respiratory issues since before the virus hit our area, but she is very sick. The hardest part is that I can't be there and she has to go through this alone. She's almost 93.
