    Gas shortage

Andrea mentioned the news of the gas shortage in her trip report, and I wanted to respond, but not get off topic there.
Its insane around here. In Virginia yesterday evening 49% of stations were completely out of gas. Any station that had gas had a line of 20-30 cars waiting, and many blocking the lanes of major roads. They are saying the pipeline is up and running again but all the idiots panic buying gas are going to screw up the supply. Pictures are floating around of people using plastic tubs and buckets to get extra fuel. It is ridiculous and unsafe. My cousin is a commercial fisherman and his livelihood is at stake because "Karen" who is working from home is filling 10 gas cans and still has a years supply of toilet paper left from 2020.
The best trip is the next trip. Anxiously waiting to book something.

I saw some of the videos on the news last night. People were even trying to use plastic bags to fill up. It’s not just crazy but dangerous. Hopefully, the shortages will be short term. I thought I heard the pipeline was ready to go back on line?

    I've heard there's also a toner shortage.

Sorry Tracey.... it reminds me of the gas crisis in the early 70's. The only way I got gas was to park at the pump before they opened when I was a breakfast cook at the restaurant next door. My real problem was my MG Midget had a 7 gallon tank and got horrible mileage!

No problem here in MA this morning... no lines and open pumps. Had my truck filled up in 5 min! However the price....not so nice!
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the best of men!

We made a trip to Costco ( only our 2nd since the pandemic ) this morning. I needed gas but expected a long line. To my surprise it only took about 10 min. It was $2.89 a gallon here in Jersey. I expected it to be over $3. I too saw people on the news filling up storage bins, plastic milk jugs, etc. There also was a woman who opened up her trunk and had at least 10 red safety cans to fill. It reminded me of when a snow storm is predicted you can’t find milk, bread and eggs!

My aunts were saying back in the 70s in Virginia you could only get gas on certain says based on even or odd numbered license plates.

There was a Richmond gas station that marked their gas up to 6.99/gallon but were quickly busted by the internet for price gouging. Since our governor declared a state of emergency, we have some protections against the gouging.

Wow, I totally forgot about that! We had the same thing in Jersey. I can remember being on a gas line and thinking it wasn’t too bad because I could at least see the gas station up ahead. Then I realized the line I was in was for a gas station that was blocks away!
