    It really is. I have friends in this department and who have spouses in this department. This happened just a few miles from my home. Not only was an officer killed, but two others are still in the hospital and a loving mother was shot while her 11 year child was in the house (unharmed). Such a tragedy.

    Pat Conroy passed away this morning. He was my favorite author. He primarily wrote books about the low country of South Carolina, the most famous one being The Prince of Tides. A few years ago we visited Charleston, and I came home and read one of his books a second time because I could now relate to the places he mentioned in his book. He could paint a picture like no other author.

    “There are no ideas in the South, just barbecue.”

    A fantastic writer who could turn a phrase into a knife. The literary world also died a little today.
