our few friends grew to 12.
we roasted a 13 lb turkey and a 6 lb turkey breast.
all of the fixings were delicious.
the pie menu grew to pumpkin, apple, pecan, peanut butter and chocolate pudding.

    dinner was at 5.

at noon time, I made myself a small bowl of cranberry relish as it was to tempting to ignore.
almost immediately I had that burning reflux horror.
a nexium and a handful of tums helped tremendously.

when we sat down to dinner the burning and nausea began ........all I had at that point was a glass of cider.

for the next 10 hours I was in and out of the bathroom and bed.
holy cow...........the acid in the cranberries and orange in that relish wreaked havoc on me.
to say I felt badly was an understatement.
and I felt even worse leaving our guests and Paul to find for themselves .

every so often people peeked in at me in bed asking if I was still alive.

awoke at 9 am to not only a clean dining room and kitchen but really everything back in order!

I think I am ready for breakfast ....not cranberry orange relish.........which actually tasted great.

We are hosting a couple of friends for a Thanksgiving meal this weekend! (we will be in Aruba on the actual holiday)
Our menu includes....turkey, stuffing, cauliflower, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, cranberry/orange relish, cornbread casserole, sweet potato pie and apple and pumpkin pies. Much wine and cider. All of those carbs!!

thanks...I feel badly putting a damper on our "big dinner"
I am eyeing the leftover pies in the fridge.
Back to bed this morning at 11 and now, finally up and having the much needed cup of coffee!!

Sorry to hear you were so ill Andrea.. Glad you are feeling better and that you guests didn't leave you a mess to clean up!

This year I'll be going to my Aunts. So Wed after work I'll make the trip from Boston to LI. I've found if I leave about 7 or 8 PM that there isn't much traffic. I think a lot of people leave Tuesday night around here as that seems to be the bigger travel day.

I'll be staying with my parents and so will my Aunt, Uncle and their two kids who are 4 and 2. So we will probably make a big breakfast Thursday morning and hopefully my brother will be able to come over with my niece and nephew who I haven't seen in a few months. Then we'll relax for a bit and head to my other Aunt's for dinner with the family. There is usually about 15-30 of us, depending on who can make it for dinner. Regardless, after dinner just about all 30 will end up there for dessert. It's a big group. I usually don't do much help wise for food because I take off Thanksgiving and then I usually make the meal for the group on Christmas.

I like seeing everyone for the holidays, although I wouldn't mind sharing it with Peg and Andrea in Aruba this year!

    Happy Thanksgiving eveyone!

I am sorry you missed your dinner. I am glad you didn't wake up to a mess. In our house, I cook and everyone cleans up after dinner. I wish they'd clean up while I am cut, chopping, baking, etc. but I'll take what I can get. All I have to do it put away the china, good utensils, etc and wash the linen, etc. I tend not to eat much at dinner-just to damn tired.
