    Today in Virginia

It was a beautiful day in Virginia Beach, and we spent the afternoon at the NAS Oceana Air Show. There was not a cloud in the sky as several performers took to the air and dazzled us with stunts I'm sure an airplane wasn't meant to perform. There were tons of static displays also, but the reason everyone wants to go is to see the US Navy's Blue Angel Flight Demonstration Team. Ah, the Blue Angels. If you have ever had a chance to see them perform, you know what I mean. The flying is amazing, high speed passes feet away from each other at over 450 miles per hour. We took my grandson and he was pretty impressed. He got to come with his class for the media show on Friday, so he'd seen everything already, but still hung out with us. It was an amazing time, extremely loud and your insides trembled from jets in full afterburner less than a football field away as goosebumps covered your arms. We are close enough to see a lot of the flying from our house but being there in person on the flight line is a whole other level of excitement. The sound of freedom never gets old.

    sounds like a blast.
those air shows are impressive, breathtaking and scary!

I got the worse sunburn of my life at an airshow here in Lakeland in 2011. (Sun n Fun)
we were on the tarmac area for hours and my legs got fried...to the point I wound up in bed for 2 days.

Everyone should see an airshow either the Navy's Blue Angels or the Air Force's Thunderbirds at least once in their life.

I bet your grandson will remember the event for the rest of his life.

You and Pam are "great" grandparents.

I live in Colorado Springs by the Air Force Academy and the Thunderbirds perform every year for graduation. I usually take the day off just to watch the show. I live the roar of the jet engines!

I am glad you had a great time with your grandson. Those shows are awesome. There is a small historic airport in the town next to us and in May they host Wings and Wheels(car show). We've seen the Blue Angles, Thunderbirds, and the Canadians Snowbirds(?). They don't have a headliner every year, but when they do the crowds are insane. Once they had a Stealth do a flyover in a pure blue, cloudless sky. One year, before we had the cars, it took us almost 2.5 hours to get home and it is normally under 20 minutes. We have been going since the kids were toddlers-my father-in-law went with us, so it was before he passed less than a year later. Happy Memories.
