    As I do each year on this day, went to the cemetery before work and planted a small flag at my Dad's grave, a proud veteran of WWII, and thank him both for his service and for being the best father anyone could hope for.

    My dad served in the Army in Vietnam in 1968/69 and the older I get, the more I realize just how big of a deal that was. When I was a kid, he never really talked much about it at all, as most did not. As he has gotten older and a little more distanced from it, he talks about his experiences quite freely now. What used to be something to be ashamed of is now something to be quite proud of, at least service-to-our-country-wise.
