The airport is undergoing construction and adding more gates. I think there is a plan to speed up the immigration process for entering (that part remains to be seen). It saddens me to say this but from my observation these past years Aruba often does not have a 'plan'. They just do....current example....the decision was made to close the dump Dec 31, 2022 and stop burning...a good thing...so where is the trash to go now....oops! Then they wonder why people who were taking their trash to the dump themselves as they did not want to pay the cost for pick up are now leaving their trash in fields, etc. Ecotec for example will take the trash you deliver.to them ...yes for a price (which I support and agree with). They will take grass and brush kind of things for free. But it is amazing to me the number of local people (all well educated ) who were not aware of this new situation!

Not sure if I posted this but...when we came in on Jet Blue this past Dec.12th in the afternoon the lines were so long they actually went through the airport and planes kept landing and emptying people out adding to it. It was so crazy and then the line finally started moving and we all just kept moving and no security checkpoint scanners we all just picked up our luggage walked through, and out the door to get a taxi. We couldn't believe it, we could have brought all kinds of things had we known. The airport can't handle any more than they do now for sure.

The first year here, our phone would ring once or twice and stop. No matter when up picked it up, no one was there. This included security. People left us messages, but we had no messages. We had several people from Setar out. I can't remember the order of things, but at one point they thought they had it fixed and had us call the number-it rang in the condo next to us and they answered! All our voicemails went to the condo next to us-we worked with the renters there and had them check the messages. It took several different techs and several days to get it right.

I bet you'd rather have the kids skateboarding in the adjacent ditch
It wasn't the skateboarding-kids had used that area for a while-kids will be kids, but the illegal building of permanent ramps on government(the drainage ditch) and Oceania land.

I do not know if they have an incinerator....I would guess no because for years the trash goes to the dump operated by Aruba. Fires take place...not sure if they are intentional or not. If you have not been on the island when they have a big burn consider yourself lucky!

Ecotec's website lists how they dispose of trash. That is a private company. Many pay for the service of Ecotec

Serlimar is the government trash pick up. There is a yearly charge for that service also.

My neighbor is a snowbird and will be going to her home in the villages Wednesday. Did you always get freezing weather days in January? Weather changed everywhere. Glad it will be better tomorrow and really - a confederate flag on MLK day!!?? Ugh!
