When to book for November/December 2020?

With all of the uncertainty with the airlines these days, I'm wondering what my fellow November/December Aruba travelers are planning to do. When will you book your flights for Aruba 2020? I usually start looking around this time and if I see something good I book it. The problem with that is sometimes routes change in a normal year. And as we all know, this year is far from normal!

Here are the thoughts going through my head -

    1. Book a normal route that has consistently flown in the past when I see a good price. Pros - reasonable prices, seats we want, and done. Cons - are any major airlines going to go bankrupt? Are they going to significantly change routes and schedules...all unknowns.
    2. Wait wait wait. Pros - more time to see what's happening in the world. Jet Blue or SWA may have good routes/prices when they open. Cons - will all the people rebooking from this time of year being going and demand makes the ticket prices skyrocket.

What are your thoughts? I think we usually end up buying tickets for Thanksgiving around May, but I really feel like the Nov-Dec time period is going to be significantly more crowded this year.

Tracey, we’re of the same mind set as you. I was saying to Tom today we should at least book Manchebo as that is where we want to spend the bulk of our time. I know he also wants to stay at the Renaissance the last few days but if that doesn’t happen we would be okay trying somewhere else. As for airfare, JetBlue is not yet open for November and they are the only airline we fly. We may, however, have to be more flexible. I normally book in May or June but do have concerns about all the people who may be looking to rebook as November has been more popular the last few years.

It’s looking more and more unlikely that our May trip will happen so it would be nice to have something to look forward to.

we have our lacabana booked and paid for.

we will wait for SWA to open their Nov/Dec flights in late May or June.

by the grace from God, we will be going.

if you see those flights now Tracey.....then go 4 it.

We have booked our timeshare rental, but we usually wait to book hotel for add on nights until we know our flight options. I am thinking I might book Hilton for the dates I think we will go, and just book a refundable rate just in case I have to change it for the flights.

On the good side, some of the hotels are offering generous cancellation policies.

We had already booked our flight to Aruba for November in January. We booked Hans & our place is automatically blocked off with our landlord. The only thing we have to book is the flight home in mid-Dec but the rates are so high right now. We are going Nov 8 to Dec 15. I am more concerned about the wedding we have to go to at the end of July in Portland and then we have a flight to Vegas. I will wait til end of May to decide whether to cancel (flights were points) and hotel was just one night which is refundable.

I'm all set for arrival Sept. 3rd with both Manchebo and Delta. Sure hope I'm able to go and report back to you all that Aruba is open for business and to follow me down! But if not, will go next year.

I feel the same. We booked the Airbnb, but I have not done our flights yet. I can at least get my money back out of the Airbnb if I need to and can cancel up to October 10th (we are going Oct 24th-31st - HOPEFULLY), but I have not decided when to deal with the airline tickets yet. I am kind of waiting to see when some of this settles down, but I also don't want to miss my chance to maybe get a better deal on airfare. I think the airlines are trying to out-wait people and people (well, me at least) are trying to out-wait the airlines. Game of chicken, anyone?

We too, are sitting on the fence. This year we have other commitments mid October to mid November. We also have to be home for mid December plans. We usually go to a convention in early September, and were planning on a stop in Vegas at the same time. If the convention gets canceled, we might go the island instead. Our air prices to Aruba are so inexpensive right now, we’d hate to pass them up. As an example; round trip economy class, is currently $250 pp. What to do and when...
