Car, taxi, bus, walk, hitchhike or designated driver ?

Paul mentioned to me last night that he was surprised at the amount of thought that he was giving to our upcoming Aruba trip.
He mentioned that he is looking forward to his bucket of beers at reflexions and the bogo happy hours at LaCabana.
It made me think about the fact that I am always the designated driver.......I mentioned to him that this trip is extra special and I planned on quenching my thirst as well. He looked at me stunned.

So, for this upcoming vacation I will be the designated driver only half of the time and he will be the driver half the time!

What do you do while in Aruba?

Who is the designated driver or do you take a taxi or other form of transportation?

If I could get Tom to agree to rent a car, he would be a designated driver as he doesn’t drink. That won’t be happening, so ... we grab a taxi or we’re walking. ]

I do most of my drinking at my accomodation or within walking distance to where I’m staying. So, if I’m eating somewhere I have to drive, I reserve my drunkenness for the balcony! I also drink on the beach, but no driving required. If I’m visiting other beaches, I stick with water.

It's vacation - neither one of us wants to be the designated driver so we don't. We would rather pay the taxi rate than even discuss it. Even if we rent a car, some evenings it sits in the parking lot and we take a taxi. We've been talking about spending a day at Reflextions and we don't want to have to worry about who will drink and how much we drink. We also do not like to drive in the dark in Aruba so for most dinners that means taxi over rental car. This means if we do dinner at somewhere like Fish House we have to do more of a late lunch early dinner.

I could also see us driving somewhere and leaving the vehicle if our mood or plan changes while we are there - then the next day either taxi or bus back to get it, depending on where the car is.

You may be thinking "why rent a car then?" We like having it in the mornings for snorkeling on our own or seeing a sunrise or checking out other parts of the island. Typically in the afternoon it gets parked and we move on from it.

I do most of the driving when we are in Aruba, but once in awhile, I just tell him, he's driving. If I feel like drinking, I prefer a place we that is walkable.

I rent a car for half the trip and taxi the rest. I like the car for heading out to baby beach and other sites in the area .Also grocery shopping is better with a car. Most of our meals are done up in the high rise area and is a cheap taxi from costa linda.

I always rent a car and always do 95% of the driving, I normally walk to and from my drinking destinations. Occasionally I will take a cab. Besides being against the law, I think Aruba is prime for accidents. Mix drinking, tourists not familiar with the roads, and all the traffic circles and you have a formula for disaster.

We rented a car for the first couple of years. Then took the bus for the 15 years and a cab for the last few years. This year we'll probably take cabs, maybe rent a car for a couple of days.

I prefer drunk walking, lol. If I am out with the family we usually taxi it...when I am out solo I walk to and from wherever I am going with a drink in my hand.
