Maps.me questions

I downloaded this app a few days ago since we are thinking about renting a car for our Fall trip. Being technically challenged we have a few questions. Would we need to do anything before we arrive in Aruba? I understand it works without Wi-Fi. Is it easy to use like reading a map? Are most things clearly marked? I think having it would give us the confidence to do day driving around the island. Night driving, especially after a few dinner drinks, would be left to a cab driver. I know I can get honest, respectable responses from all the great forum members here. Thanks all!

We use maps.me and I dont think that we do anything special before we arrive.
We do update the app if required.
Most things on the map are clearly marked.
Many things on Aruba's roadsides are not marked well or as well as I need.

Practice at home with it.
Download your map of your current location.
Turn your phone on airplane mode and see how the map shows up of where you are, just to get used to it.

I’m laughing Andrea because I’m usually the driver and my husband is the navigator too! That’s a great idea experimenting with it at home to test it out. I’ve also told my husband since Aruba is an island how lost can we get! Yes, I know very lost but eventually we’ll find our way. Years ago while driving in DC ( yes I know ) we got so lost and kept going past the White House. This was before Garmins and navigation devices.

You’d be very surprised at how lost you can get.
My friend Janet lives in San Nic and I can get to her house but getting out is a definite get lost event. Same with the Wayaca neighborhood.

We have used maps.me for our last 2 or 3 visits. Love it! Yes, it's good to update the Aruba map while on Wi-Fi. And now we are spoiled because none of the cars we rent in Aruba have Apple Carplay (first world problem). The app will give you turn by turn directions just like Google Maps or Waze at home. You just have to listen to your phone. We have found a lot of the short cuts to avoid main roads at traffic time as well. This would probably work well at home during the rare times your phone has no cell service
