Eurokitchen came out today. Wonderful interaction. They can do things that Berloni just said "no" to doing. They can order us cabinets with built in locks so I don't have to move everything to the owners closet when we leave-food stuff, specific kitchen stuff that I know will disappear like a few of my things from Pampered Chef or my bottle stopper from Gaby's hands or might break such as my food scale. There is an odd space that I wanted open shelving for on the end of the uppers which Berloni wanted me to put in a useless cabinet with a door even though I wanted open shelves. EK, said they have a rounded cabinet that would work well there, which is exactly what I wanted. The salesman, Darwin, who we met with on Wednesday will call us to set up an appointment to do the layout. And they do not want all the money before they start, however; it seems pretty much the practice here is to pay for all the materials when ordered and we do understand that you can't just send it back here like at home. Then they want a certain % to get started and the final 10% at the end.

So from the best we can figure out we will have to 1) get someone to do the demo 2) get in the electrician to move outlets, change/add lighting, put in a few 220 lines, and to get the microwave off the same circuit as the outlets 3) have them do the install 4) if we want a tile backsplash, then get someone in but if we want something they do, it will happen at the install.

We will get the European style oven and induction cooktop and dishwasher from them and the fridge and microwave from probably AMC Unicon. They do make ovens that microwave, but we want the option to be able to use both at the same time.

We decided to purchase our fridge and microwave now rather than wait and hope they have it in next year. Additionally, the kitchen company will need their measurements.

No one had a GE french door fridge that would fit in the space and my choices were LG or Whirlpool. Our friend said that LG had a lot of electronics, so I went with the Whirlpool at AMC Unicon. It's 30 inches. We decided a bigger sink is more important than a bigger fridge. We have a 36 inch at home and it is only fully filled at the holidays. The new one is similar is size to what we have, but it will be easier to use. They gave me 7% off because they only had the floor model left even though they just arrived on the island on Jan. 5.

They did not have a stainless microwave, but Crown did. I had checked the prices of the fridge and microwave to see what they are at home. The fridge was only about $150 more than home, but the microwave was more than double than the same one at home and much more than the $150 for the fridge. Crown also is charging to deliver and Unicon does not.

Everything is coming on Thursday because tomorrow is a holiday. We will be giving away the old appliances. The microwave is only 2 years old, but the fridge is original.

New fridge was delivered and set up by 11:300 am. It is only a 30 inch(last one was 33), but it has better access and seems to be roomier since it is not a side by side and the ice compartment is smaller. The cooled fairly quickly. I let it cool for an hour, then put everything back in the fridge, with half the ice that was in our very large ice bin. Later I did the same thing with the frozen food(which I had in cooler bags, the fridge stuff was on the counter) We gave the old fridge to the people who work here. They can use extra one for staff to keep their lunches cold.

The microwave arrived about 2:45-they called and said they'd be here between 1 and 3. We will get someone to install it and the other one will get donated. It's only 2 years old, but isn't what we wanted-it was basically what was available during covid.

We meet with Darwin today about the layout and design of the kitchen. What a patient, nice gentleman. He will work out the price and get back to us. I am going to go with white cabinets, gray counters and the tile I found at Banjolux. I'll upload a picture. The picture is not the greatest though. They did not have the door style in white, so it is shown in gray. I forgot to take a picture of the cabinet handles. The tile with the counter is really nice. The tile picks up the wall/furniture color and the counter and cabinet color. We will have the Bosch dishwasher look like a cabinet and are going with the European oven and induction stove top. The smaller oven will allow for more space and we really don't use it often nor do renters.

Wow your cabinet door looks exactly like ours in white. We redid the kitchen about 6 months ago. I have white cabinets with long brushed pulls (very contemporary). The countertop is luxury quartz white background with splashes of gray and a little black. Backsplash is various shades of light grey tile to keep it modern. We love it! Good luck with your selections. It’s a lot of work but worth it in the end.
