I came back from PriceSmart, took the elevator up walked into the condo, put my stuff down, took one item out of my bag to put in the fridge and the light came on. It took me a minute to figure out it was not the fridge or a circuit breaker. I am thankful I did not get on the elevator a minute or two later or I would have been on it when the power went out.

i have decided to now bring a battery bank or two and keep it charged.

    Island wide power outage

My cousin is at the Ocean Club and just texted me that there’s an island wide power outage. Sewer spill by Palm Beach Rio earlier this week. It’s only going to get worse with all the overdevelopment taking place. Responsible development is what’s needed. Such as- limiting the size of new projects, a requirement for the developer to pay towards needed infrastructure improvements such as sewer, electric grid, roads and enforcement of submitted plans so that what is being built coincides with what the drawings indicate. Taking a hard look at the projects in place now and holding the development to the plans is one small step in the right direction. Hefty fines for those not in compliance will pay for the enforcement. A moratorium on all new development should be in place until the government figures out how to get the infrastructure is upgraded.
I understand that the hotels are still short staffed so I’m not sure where the employees for these new projects are going to come from. Further, where are these people supposed to live? Is any residential development taking place for Aruba’s workers?

Glad you were not on that elevator Robin I would be petrified.
We showed up for our 11:00 appt. with a new groomer and she told us she lost power...when we left home it was on.
As she was asking about rescheduling, I see the 2 cutest dogs...all wet just sitting on a table out back in the dark not making a sound.
You never know what people or dogs are in the middle of when they lose power. I hope everyone on the island is safe.
Thanks to Andrea and anyone who has power, to feed us info. Trying to conserve battery power here.

Power has been restored to a good portion of the island.
Still some outages, but it should be rectified soon.

Our power came back about 20 minutes ago while I was at the pool. Came back up to restart the dishwasher, fix the clocks, etc.

I was very happy I was not on the elevator. These are new elevators and this is the first time the power went out. No one was on the one in our building. The other building had someone in it. It opened on the floor closest to where it was when the power went out with in a minute of losing power. The only issue is the emergency light did not come on, so now that the power is back on they can check out why-which may be as simple as a loose wire or defective light bulb. We thought it would go to the first floor and open, but there are different ways to program them. Really, as long as the doors open on a floor so people can get out, it doesn't matter which one they are on.

Sewer spill by Rui has been going on for longer than a week...though much worse this week
Island wide power outages are numerous and unacceptable.

(If we think it is bad now just wait until Embassy Suites opens).

For an educated island those in power (no matter the party) act like it is a third world country. The above issues will have a negative impact on tourism within the next 5 years. Cheaper to travel to Miami Beach.
