How do you know each other? :)

To all the folks here that seem to know each other beyond just behind a computer (you know, that have actually met in *gasp* person!): do you know each other because of this forum or outside of this forum and all got on the forum at some point?

Seems like many of you have been going to Aruba for years and have gotten together at multiple various times, so it got me to wondering if you knew each other only from the forum or because of the forum.

(Also, if this has been asked/discussed before, feel free to ignore/delete/etc.)

The people I know from the forum are people I met on the forum with the exception of DiviDiviFan. We had met when we were staying at the Divi AI and got talking, while at the bar, about the forum. She later started posting. The others we have met at various meet and greets. Andrea and Paul and Tom and I have gotten together for dinner when on the island.

The meet and greets are just casual meet ups at places like Local Store or the beach bar at Amsterdam Manor. People stop by, have a drink and say hello. It’s a nice way to make new friends.

For me.... it's from the Forum. I was able to attend one get together about 5 years ago and did meet a few forum folks. I know those people from the forum... and a number of others from just joining them here...!
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the best of men!

mostly the people that I have met are generally thru this forum and a few from the old and now defunct AOL Aruba page or Richard's now defunct page.
we have made some great friendships from this aruba.com site.

I cannot even begin the list of people that we have met in Aruba, but suffice it to say we have met a lot.
we have attended numerous happy hrs with Aruba.com forum members who have become friends!

a lot of us have developed real friendships that do not necessarily revolve around Aruba.

my closest friend, Sherry Feit (Sefeit on the old AOL) and I became fast friends.
she was the older sister that I never had.
was the forum moderator on another bulletin board (that too is defunct). we met in Aruba in 1998 and became fast friends.
we had similar political, ethical and other things that made us hit it off.
she was the kindest person that I ever met, and had 0 use for racists, antisemites and others that were bad. .
she was always someone that paved the way to make people see the good in all.
she was always one to advocate for the little guy.
Sherry died of leukemia here in Lakeland in the Fall of 2015.
    I miss her every day.

Phrogg...I moved this out of Off Topic since it is related to Aruba.

Your friend Sherry sounds wonderful!! I am so sorry to hear of her passing.

And thank you for moving it. I wasn't sure where exactly to put this...

Traceyd14 and I met in a Turkish prison. She was selling guns carved out of toilet seats and I was buying. At first, she put a knife to my throat and threatened to, "Cut you like a real grouper" but then backed off when I told her I'm basically a doctor because I've seen all of "ER" and "Grey's Anatomy". With that, we ruled the prison. Our prison names were "El Grouper" and "Angie O'Plasty". You can guess who is who.

I can only assume you also stayed at a Holiday Inn Express the night before you ended up in said prison...

I can also only assume that the "act" in your user name stands for "Angie Cuts Thieves"... so I think I know which one is your prison name.

Besides our Turkish prison connection, our friendship is built on sarcasm and mutual dislikes

My other connections here are mainly online. A few people have connected beyond this forum onto Facebook where I over-share and we build connections that way.

My first time meeting Andrea in person was in a port-o-potty..haha. I will never forget it. We actually planned to meet at a beach bar and could barely stand the sewage smell and had to cut it short. By coincidence last year we ended up on the same flight sitting just a row apart..

My favorite meetings have been a couple times when someone approaches me during my trip and asks if I'm Tracey. And no, I dont wear a gold chain with my name engraved on it for all to see (or do I?) But those couple times it has been someone who checks the forum but weren't regular posters. I try to encourage them to post. It's an interesting little community we have built here.

Quite a few people I've never met in person but feel like I've known them forever. A few posters I am glad to see their pictures so I can duck and hide if we ever cross paths...LOL!!!

I met Kent on his Aruba Bob excursion and another time on the beach. Most recently was the forum get together in November with Walt, Bri, Andrea, and some of our significant others.

The best trip is the next trip. Anxiously waiting to book something.
