In the Netherlands I see ads for Aruba in magazines. Not on television. We have far more commercials on television for Curacao. That is the go to island for the Dutch. Aruba is too expensive for us.

In the Netherlands I see ads for Aruba in magazines. Not on television. We have far more commercials on television for Curacao. That is the go to island for the Dutch. Aruba is too expensive for us.

Dutch people go to Curacao because that's simply where they have the most exposure to. Aruba simply does not market itself in the Netherlands because of several key factors. Curacao has always chosen to do so. Its also because for many Dutch people, Curacao is synonymous to the "antillen"(antilles). This comes mostly due to history(Curacao was the main island and seat of the government from colonial times up until recently in 2010 when the remaining Netherlands Antilles ceased to exist), but also a little ignorance.

Price wise, when you take everything into account, the islands do not differ much at all. Both are relatively expensive destinations.

Aruba's marketing strategy is different now than how it was before. Now ATA runs things from their own budget and analytics. Its no longer the "throw ads around" on TV/radio, but much more directed.

Arawak I disagree that Aruba and Curacao are similar pricewise. For Curacao you have a lot of choice in package deals with flights and hotels. It is substantially cheaper than Aruba. Also, Aruba is more oriented to the market in the USA. For instance, you see a lot of timeshares on Aruba. On Curacao not that much. Europeans aren’t into timeshares. There really is a big difference between Aruba abd Curacao from a touristic point of view. I, by the way, prefer Aruba over Curacao.
