This past winter was quiet on the island, so there was no real smell and it was the first time in years we ate at Passions. We figured we'd better take advantage of it.

I have a feeling my walks will laps rather than up and back to avoid going near there.

I love the beach (who doesn't?), anywhere that I can snorkel, The Donkey Sanctuary (much to the dismay of my daughter), the lighthouse.

My timeshares are at the Marriott, so I usually stay on Palm Beach but I have always wanted to stay on Eagle Beach. Now that my kids are out of college and the weddings are paid for, I have been able to extend my vacations. For the past few years I have stayed at the Renaissance before moving to Palm Beach. This was the year for Eagle Beach! I happily booked for 5 days at Amsterdam Manor, due to arrive next Thursday. Last night I sadly canceled my reservation due to this issue. Fortunately my stay was fully-refundable and I was able to book a villa through Bon Cas Aruba.

I really hope they can rectify this issue.

Did you have to tell the AM why you were cancelling?
I wonder if they are aware that this is an issue with guests or prospective guests?

One of our members stays at AM often and for extend periods and claims to have never smelled it there.

I had booked the stay through the Hopper app, so I did not have to speak to anyone. I just clicked a button. I was thinking of reaching out to them privately just to let them know. I have been commenting on their instagram on occasion about how excited I was to stay there, but I would never say anything about this on that site. They must know how bad it is. There was a long thread on one of the private facebook aruba sites. It had over 150 comments. Hopefully this issue will be resolved. It makes me sad for all of the staff who rely on the tourists to support them.

Before renting a house, we used to stay at the AM and really loved it. But the last two times we were on the island, the smell there was bad. I feel bad for them. It is such a lovely place to stay with a great beach. They can’t help that the water sewer cleaning plant is not up to the number of people staying at the island. It is the governement of Aruba that should do something about it. But considering how long the saga with the dump is going on without anything solved, I would not hold my breath. And they keep building more and more huge hotels….

Maybe the answer is for any company that builds a new mega-resort on the island be required to take care of their own sewage. Yes it would be expensive, yes it would stop all of these new places being built. But isn't that the problem in the first place? All of these resorts overwhelming the treatment plant capabilities?

    .
in our case we booked through a 3rd party to extend our stay for 3 nights at the end of a trip. We weren’t sure if we would get a refund or would just have to take the loss but there was no way we could force ourselves to stay there after we did a happy hour there early in our stay. The smell was really bad. When we explained our situation, the 3rd party immediately canceled for us and gave a full refund.

It may be in AM’s best interest to contribute to the capital improvements needed in that area. I know where I live and used to work, we had a saying “Development pays for development”. Meaning required fees were charged to builders to cover costs to update infrastructure including sewer capacity.

Has the island been getting a lot of rain? That’s when it seems to be mentioned most. That likely means that aging pipes in the ground have infiltration issues and water is getting in and putting the treatment plant over its normal gallons per day max.

I would love to stay at AM, it really looks like a place that would suit us for a relaxing time. They have units with kitchens but don’t require timeshare set check in and check out days.
The best trip is the next trip. Anxiously waiting to book something.

This week we got most of the rain for the summer. We had 3 or 4 cloudy days and some really heavy rains at night. But its been smelling all summer up there.

Frankly, if it weren't for the smell and the flies at AM we would have done our last 5 visits there since it was so much nicer (to us) than Palm Beach. We moved to Manchebo and actually like it way better.

AM looks great- and if you are unable to smell, its the place for you! Otherwise I would not consider it.
Trip 33 begins on July 15.
